Used homes are the largest producer of CO2 emissions. When a home is built green and third party certified to the NAHB standards those emissions are drastically reduced thereby lowering ones carbon footprint.

As a matter of fact, per the E.P.A. 39 new homes built to this standard is the same as cutting the emissions of 19 cars on the road. Imagine that!

It is also the equivalent to saving 115,506 thousand pounds of coal!!!!! Whoa!!

Guess what! How about planting 31.59 acres of trees!!!! Can you imagine!

But the best number is the 517,433 dollars it will save customers on their utility bills over the life of the loan.

That is why more and more people are building green. We just completed the 2nd certified green home in our county by the NAHB and the 673rd in the nation. Since then, we have signed on another 5 homes to be built to the standard. All in the midst of a recession.

In many cases building green can be affordable too. A reputable certifier can give you the payback period on different items. For example, product y costs x amount of money. I will save z dollars over so many years. I plan on staying in the home x amount of years. Did the item pay for itself in saved utility bills?

While many are off on vacation where it is warm, away from the cold, not returning phone calls I have always made hay while the snow flies.

In this area a lot of factories are shut down over the Christmas Holidays and throughout the first two weeks of January they are either shut down or on shorter hours. Therefore, there are more opportunites to meet with people. Sure, they may have some credit issues, or have a home to sell. But hey, if I take the time with them now and get them prepared for a home that is a future client at some point. Plus, they will refer their friends to me because I took the time with them when no one else would.

So, make hay while the sun shines. Or, if you live in a lake effect snow band area. Make hay, while the snow flies!!!
