"CenterArts" presents David Hidalgo and Louie Perez (of Los Lobos) on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 8 p.m. in the Van Duzer Theatre, Humboldt State University, Arcata, California.

David Hidalgo and Louie Perez take time out of their rigorous Los Lobos touring schedule for a small run of songwriter performances, to support their independent release of The Long Goodbye, a collection of important unreleased songs and rare recordings.

Stripped down and unassuming, this tour offers a retrospective of 40 years of making music from one of the most iconic rock bands of our time.

It’s an opportunity to look back and remember but more a chance to look forward to what’s next, with anticipation.

Tickets are $35 general, $35 Senior/Child and $15 HSU students. Tickets are available at the University Ticket Office and at humboldt.edu/centerarts.

Directions. Take Highway 101 North to the HSU exit. Go straight at the stop sign and take a right and park in the Library Parking Lot. Follow the signs to the Van Duzer Theatre.

Simple Digital Photography in Composition at the "Access Humboldt Community Media Center", Eureka, California

Wednesday January 18th, 2012 from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM at the Access Humboldt Community Media Center.

Focused towards beginners and applies to videography frame composition as well.

Learn how to use your new digital camera in two-hour workshop.

Led by local photographer Gary Todoroff, the program will help you use your camera with new confidence.

The workshop will emphasize good photographic composition, using examples as they apply to some of the basic settings of your camera, whether a simple point-and-shoot or a complex DSLR.

This workshop will be thought by Gary Todoroff. Gary Todoroff has a vast background in aerial, commercial, and fine art photography, as well as experience in teaching the trade.

His work presents a visual delight to anyone taking the time to look, whether as a photographer or interested observer.

Admission: $20.Open to the Public.

12th Annual Bowl of Beans Dinner, Arcata, Humboldt County, California

The City of Arcata Recreation Division with Arcata Elementary School holds the 12th Annual Bowl of Beans Benefit on Monday, Jan. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Arcata Community Center,321 Community Park Way.

This benefit honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and benefits local youth.

Enjoy a dinner of rice and beans from 5 to 6:30 p.m. followed by musical performances and storytelling.

Admission is $6.00 at the door with proceeds benefiting Arcata Recreation’s Arts in the Afternoon Program and Arcata Elementary School’s Art Program.

Raffle tickets are available at the event or at the Recreation Division Office with great prizes donated by local businesses.

Buy beautiful ceramic bowls made by youth in the Arts in the Afternoon Program.

Join the Humboldt Arts Council and the Morris Graves Museum of Art at Second Saturday Family Arts Day!

Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Graves Museum of Art.

This Saturday’s theme is Japan and the Hiroshige Prints. Activities include a Japanese Shaddow Puppet Show, Momotaro, The Peach Boy, with Sean Powers from 2:15-2:45 pm in the Performance Rotunda, Hiroshige Print Art with Kacie Flynn in the Youth Classroom from 2-4pm, and Art Activities in the Galleries from 2-4pm.
