Perambulator Parade

By Danny Mahelka

Life is so fast-paced. People are constantly rushing from one appointment to the next, from one errand to the next, from one chore to the next, and each time they find themselves hopelessly running behind schedule because of the many hours they spend parked on the five waiting dsc06805hopelessly for a break in the traffic that never seems to end. Unless, of course, they live or work on The Miracle Mile.

One of the greatest changes that has come to The Miracle Mile is the wide variety of businesses, services, and property available. Do you need to see your lawyer and your accountant in the same day? Did you also forget your wife's birthday? Maybe the kids have been bothering you to take them to that museum after they missed the last field trip? Look no further! The Miracle Mile has transformed itself into a one-stop-shop for services and stores all within walking distance of each other, all inside the confines of Wilshire Boulevard. All these offerings in one localized place inside Los Angeles? That, my friend, is why they call this place a miracle.

Buying a Piece of History

By Danny Mahelka

One amazing fact about The Miracle Mile is that it is steeped in history. This eighty year-old stretch of retail and residential property has a long background of providing a set area within Los Angeles that promises to be auto, consumer, and retailer friendly. dsc06851Originally designed by A. W. Ross, The Miracle Mile saw massive revitalization in the 90s which has made it the new go-to spot in the greater L.A. area.

My favorite contemporary change is the way in which the old and new businesses create a veritable architectural smorgasbord of Art Deco, Spanish Colonial, and more. Indoor restaurants have begun taking advantage of the California climate with outdoor seating, and new remodeling has created a fresh appearance for every façade. Walking down Wilshire is no longer a matter of window-shopping just for the wares offered by each store, but it's now an even greater enjoyment to shop for the next hotspot property in Los Angeles; wherever it is, we know it will be on Wilshire Boulevard.

As new storefronts go up and dated construction comes down, The Miracle Mile doesn't forget its origins. The sign on each block reminds the residents and tourists alike of the long background that brought The Miracle Mile into the innovative and inspiring stretch of property it is today.

My Los Angeles

By Danny Mahelka

I had a great conversation with a new client yesterday, a client who will be flying in from overseas in 2 weeks. This will be his first trip to the Los Angeles area. He was referred by another client who had praised my knowledge of the individual neighborhoods in and around the Greater Miracle Mile area.

I love to show out of town clients my Los Angeles. I say my Los Angeles, because I live and work in an area that is unique and wonderful and maybe slightly overlooked. Everyone knows about Beverly Hills and Brentwood, but many people outside of Los Angeles have never heard of Hancock Park or Carthay Circle. What an honor for me to be able to show these wonderful neighborhoods to fresh eyes.

For clients looking for beautiful homes on tree lined streets with great schools and a wonderful neighborhood sensibility these areas present a wonderful opportunity. I love to show clients how private and secluded the residences in these areas can be, while being literally blocks away from the more urban advantages our city has to offer.

I'm anxious to take my new client to see this intriguing side of Los Angeles life. If you are interested in a tour of my Los Angeles, give me a call or drop me a line.

Market Update

By Danny Mahelka

There are a couple of really important things to remember in today's market. First, despite the fact that the market has changed there are still homes being bought and sold everyday. Yes, prices have changed and the way in which loans are approved has changed; but business is still occurring. If you are interested in navigating this new market you will need to have a realtor, like myself, who is an expert in the area in which you want to buy or sell.

No matter what the market does there is one consistent theme in real estate. It might sound cliché but "Location, location, location" is more important than ever. Location is one of the largest factors in determining value. In an economy that is facing staggering gasoline prices, the importance of location simply grows. Homes within desirable neighborhoods with short commute times are highly desirable right now. If you are interested in buying or selling one of these homes I hope you will entrust me with your business. I am an expert in the neighborhoods in and around the Miracle Mile.

Living in the Greater Miracle Mile Area

By Danny Mahelka

I live and work in the Greater Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles. One of the many things I enjoy about this area is the diversity of lifestyle choices all within a short distance of each other. When you consider that there are people living in luxury high rise condos on the Wilshire Corridors and their lifestyle is a very fast-pace urban experience, while only a few blocks away there are families in the Carthay Circle area enjoying a suburban neighborhood lifestyle where everyone knows each other, its actually quite amazing. There really is something for everyone.

I have clients who want a small town atmosphere, with all of the advantages of big city life. This is entirely possible in the Greater Miracle Mile area. You can attend a block party where the entire neighborhood meets in the street to barbecue and celebrate only to drive less than ten minutes to find the most exclusive shops, restaurants, and theatres on the west coast.

As I said, this is just one of the advantages of the area that I live, work and play in, but you have to admit, it's a good one.

Miracle Mile in 1920 for $54,000, a staggering sum at the time, it was nothing more that an unpaved road. Ross was quite the visionary. He redesigned his "dirt road" with traffic in mind. Wilshire Blvd. became the first street to have designated left hand turn lanes and synchronized traffic lights. By 1928 the first major department store had moved in, Bullocks opened their doors with an amazing architectural wonder which included a parking lot in the back to offset parking issues. The rest as they say is history.

Today the Miracle Mile is an amazing vibrant hub of commercial real estate, world class museums and spectacular shopping. Of even more importance to me are the wonderful and diverse neighborhoods which have flourished in the surrounding area. If you are interested in living within closed proximity to the famed Miracle Mile give me a call and I will give you a tour of these lovely communities.
