What You Might Not Know About David Patterson - Another Active Rain Meme

For some reason, there are people out there that want to know things about me. I'm probably one of those most boring people on ActiveRain. I don't run marathons or make tons of radio and television appearances. I don't even own a pet. I'm just "Patt from The Patch". However......

Since Cheryl Phillips of TheDailyBlonde Fame and Nicole Weidauer insist on opening The Book of David, here are the rules.....

1.  Create a blog post with a link to the person who so happily tagged you.

2.  List all of these rules in the post. Feel free to cut and paste this.

3.  Share seven things that others may not know about you.  Do I or have I HAD a life outside of real estate?

4.  Identify seven friends, contacts or near enemies in which to adorn this MEME. Tag them at the end of the post and give a link to their blog.

5.  Contact each of the tagged members and let them know that you were indeed fast enough to catch them and that you did indeed tag them...no matter how much they say you missed them!  No schoolyard rules in this MEME, nope you gotta do it if you are tagged.

With the particulars out of the way, here is my attempt to tell you seven things about the Career Development Chairman of Keller Williams Columbia SC.

1. I would like to make a respectable appearance on a game show. In some form, can we bring back the ORIGINAL BONUS ROUND of the $100,000 Pyramid?

2. My favorite biblical scripture is Proverbs 27:6 - Faithful are the wounds.......

3. Movado is my favorite brand of watch. Rolex is OVERRATED! I would love to be a model for their company. YES MOVADO.....I would be a model for free.......... Except for having one watch from every Movado series.

4. I love The Cheesecake Factory. Dulce de Leche and Key Lime are my favorites. NO NUTS!

5. Wasted Talent is my favorite Family Guy episode. A reference to The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Incredible Hulk just does it for me.

6. I love card games. Along with Scrabble (which I will play anyone on any day) Rook is a Smith-Hairston (my mom is a Smith) family game. Spades helped me pay bills in college. Poker created bills for me as an adult.

7. Let's Do It Again is one of my favorite movies. Cosby & Portier are underrated as a team! Before there was a J.J. Evans, there was Bootney Farnsworth! Do you recognize the guy behind the curtain?

Get Your Mind Right in 2009 - Part 3 of My Unintentional Series

The most recent temperature "dip" (overnight lows moved between 7-9 degrees and a current reading of 29 degrees) in Columbia SC have created a perfect environment for me to stay inside and update myself on ActiveRain happenings. After reading this morning's blog post by Travis Olson, I was inspired to package three blog posts for you that can be used in "Getting Your Mind Right" in 2009. Without the right mindset, this year could be even more tumultuous than 2008.

Part One - Passion & Persistence: When you watch the AFC & NFC Championship Games on tomorrow, you'll be watching real-life examples of qualities that will be needed to realize your 2009 goals.

Part 2 - Be Well....Be Thankful......Be Focused: A Birthday Wish for You from Me!

Part Three - Read These Books/Change Your Perspective!

In Big Dreams/Goals in 2009 - Why You Will Succeed...or Fail, Olson discusses several books that have changed his views on business. I'd like to share two that have had the same impact on my life.

Shift by Gary Keller and The Dip by Seth Godin

As the formula for Coca-Cola has been successful for decades, reading these books and absorbing the knowledge available to you in the ActiveRain community will prove to be just as enduring and vital to your real estate success.

Remember..........

"The only difference between now and a year from now is the people you met and the books you read."

Have A Great Weekend!

STAY WARM!

"Be Well....Be Thankful....Be Focused!" My Birthday Wish for You!

Good Morning World!

At 11:17AM on this day circa 37 years ago, David Anthony Patterson came into this world in Charleston, West Virginia.

I am not for a lot of hoopla about anything related to me. Therefore, this post isn't about me. As a matter of fact, I had no plans of posting a blog today until I received a phone call and listened to a song.

5:30am - I woke to start my daily regimen of going to the gym and getting the "ticker" pumping and the sweat pouring. This is a commitment (NOT A RESOLUTION) for my better 2009.

8:00am - I am in the car and beginning my 25 minutes drive to the office. The phone rings with well wishes and a question. "David.....How do you feel this morning?"

MY RESPONSE...................................... I am Thankful!

Last year wasn't the best year for me. Arguably, 2008 could have been the worst since I lost my father in 1995 about 13 months after graduating from Queens University.

However, I'm thankful!

+ I'm thankful for being alive!

+I'm thankful for being able to climb out of bed and complete a 40-minute workout at the Katie & Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center.

+I'm thankful for a WARM HOME and HOT WATER and A BLUE SUIT to face the world.

+I'm thankful to being able to get in a nice car and listen to my favorite Generation X artist Erykah Badu.

I mention Erykah because she has played a musical role in my life for a long time. While listening to a song and thinking about a challenge issued by Nannette Saunders, I wanted to share it with you.

It's a peak into the spirit of a 37-year old man who dreams big and desires much BUT life gets in the way!

After listening to this song, I was inspired to write and send my birthday wishes!

1. BE WELL --- Do something for your body today AND EVERY DAY!

2. BE THANKFUL ---- For most of us, we don't have the perfect life or "The American Dream". However, if you are reading this............YOU ARE BLESSED! BE THANKFUL!

3. BE FOCUSED ---- Set a goal and move towards it with unbridled passion and persistence!

If you do those things for me, it would be a great gift to me on my birthday because the world would become a healthier and happier place!

ENJOY YOUR..........excuse me................ENJOY MY DAY (big smile)!

My Proposal for Your '09 Motto... Passion+Persistence=Production!

If you have been following my blog over the last four-plus months, you are aware of my life-long love for FOOTBALL!!! While watching last Sunday's NFL Wild Card games, I experienced some inspiring moments by watching two very successful NFL players.

Their career approaches and results can be used as living examples of the ingredients necessary for success in 2009.

PASSION + PERSISTENCE = PRODUCTION

PASSION - If you can find a more passionate player than Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens, please let me know. (We can have that debate in a separate post.) Ray exemplifies PASSION on the football field. In every workout......During every speech....On every play...........

In every game.....Ray IS PASSION!

Whether you like him or not, you cannot deny his self-sacrificing love for THE GAME.

When potential buyer-clients and homeowners talk with you about real estate and their future transaction, they should feel your passion for helping others achieve their real estate dreams and goals.

PERSISTENCE - After his name was called during Selection TWO of the 1999 NFL Draft, Quarterback Donovan McNabb was booed by the Philadelphia Eagles' fans. To this day and as recent as 4pm on Sunday, December 28, 2008, there were serious rumblings about whether the Eagles Organization was going to cut ties with #5.

How has Donovan repaid the Eagles Contingent? Philadelphia was treated to four consecutive NFC Championship Games and a trip to Super Bowl XXXIX. And....most recently...a 2009 NFL Wildcard victory versus Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings.

In my opinion, Donovan has been instrumental in helping the Eagles perform at a level of continuous quality for the last ten years! If you are reading this blog post and thinking about writing a book about persistence, you must include a chapter about Donovan J. McNabb!

PRODUCTION - If you are passionate about your BIG WHY and you are persistent in performing the task that lead to successful transaction, you will be well on your way to your desired 2009 PRODUCTION.

Hey Ray and Donovan! Thanks for being living examples of the traits necessary to be a successful real estate agent. I hope to meet you one day and personally thank you for being you!
