Mad Mortgage Machine Weekly Radio Show & Podcast

08-22-08
Dave Woodson

This week on the Mad Mortgage Machine Radio Show and Podcast, I speak of he benefits of the new housing bill snf just how close to a bottom we might be.

I had read an article on Yahoo Finance about how close to the bottom we can be and what are the indicators. I spoke on that, sharing my opinion, and I think and I am not alone on this that we are going to be turning a corner in the first part of 2009. I think if you can survive the next year of so. You are going to love 2010.

I used a blog by Mr. Randy Prothero and his great blog for the new (and I think the old) Realtor. I share the benefits of blogging and other web programs.

I, also, answer a question from a listener and blog reader about ITIN loans. I will know more on her after I speak with her and get more information. There is a lot that can be done, but until I talk to her about her and hr husband situation there is little that I can. I know FHA is an option.

Tune in tomorrow on WIMS-am 1420 or listen on line @ www.wimsradio.com @ 1030 am SCT

Risk, Chances, go bravely

"Take risks. Take chances. Don't be afraid. You gotta go into life brave."

Billy Joel (1949 – )
Singer, pianist and songwriter

You're nothing but a bigshot - I love that song. Are you taking risks right now. I know for many of us just staying in the business is a risk. A risk, that I am sure will pay off in spades in a year or so. I look forward to the time that all this balances out. I was reading Realtor magazine the other day and the NAR chief economist thinks this year and next will be the year of healing, and all that I have read from the Mortgage side of the table suggests the same thing.

Yeah, I know we all heard that home starts have fallen, but I am sure they all will be able to ge back up. We hear the economy stinks, but now is absolutely the bast time to buy.

Before, I got into Mortgages. I worked for a company named PPG. I was a paint salesman calling on the big boxes to the mom and pops around the corner. I used to be so scared to walk into some of those mom and pops stores. Till one day, I realized something. They can't beat me up.

They can toss me out! Call me and my company names! But, they cannot beat me up. My sales sky rocketed. I was "rookie of the year" and "quote buster" two years in a row. When I got into mortgages. I held on to the same believe. I was "top dog" and "presidents club" several months up and including the month I left to open my own office.

Your success is just on the other side of the door. You need to open it and venture in...it is so worth it.

The Farmer's Market

Michigan City had a lot to offer on the weekends. I used to be one of those people that would whine and moan that there was nothing to do on the weekends here in Michigan City. Oh sure, we got the beach, but the water is pretty cold, and have you ever taken a 4 year old to the beach and not hve to get in the water with her. Plus, she has no bady fat. Her little lips turn blue in a matter of moments.

I lve to get up on a Saturday morning grab the paper from the drive and go over the list of things that I can do if I so choose, Well, starting every may, we get the Farmers Market where there are fresh flowers, veggies, fruits, meats, mushrooms, breads, soups and dips. Plus, there are the occasional street performer or some local troupe that has a play that night and they are giving us all a taste in hopes of packing the house that night.

So, if you find yourself in MC for the weekend make sure you stop over at the MartketPlace and get some great tomatos, peaches and corn this summer. Fresh is the best way to go. My fmaily and I make it a bike ride to grab our lunch and dinner there and we enjoy the rest of the day and the week with great seasonal vegatbale and fruits.

Bite into a Legend

I was struck the other day when I red the blog by the great Jeff and Grace Safrin about the great Tony's Saddle Shop just outside of Valparaiso here in Northwest Indiana. What could I write about was nearly as equal or greater than that. Then it hit me, like a ton of bricks. No, I was not driving without hands again.

It was Redamak's, the greatest burger in the world and if you are from the Chicagoland area. You most certainly know about Redamak's. You can have a pan fried burger with everything there as long as everything includes onion, pickles, cheese, mustand and catsup. It does not take credit cards - cash only, and it is only open from March 1st through the sometime in October.

It has hosted some of Hollywood's greats such as Jay Leno to local celebreties as Steve Dahl and Dave Woodson. They have their own butchershop that creates the fabulous burger patties.

In 1983, we cut and ground approximately 63,000 lbs.*
For the year 2003, we cut approximately 99,000 lbs.*
For the year 2005, we cut approximately 107,000 lbs.*
For the year 2006, we cut approximately 110,000 lbs.*
For the year 2007, we cut approximately 115,000 lbs.*

* Statistics based on individual patties; approximately three to a pound.

You have to appreciated a place that takes that kind pride in their meat.

So, if you find yourself driving through NW Indiana or SW Michigan make sure you stop by Redamak's for the famous working person's special.

Google and the Mortgage Backed Securities

Wow, Google is heating up the market jumping $80/share on reports that earnings are up 31% in the first quarter.  Citigroup is up after reporting a loss that could have been worse.  There are several more that up and stock futures soar this morning and that puts pressure on mortgage backed securities.

Right now, we are still down a ton, but not as bad as earlier this morning.  We are battling back to even, but we will have a ways to go.  We have been seeing increased call volume into the office.  Our message must be getting out that it is not that bad after all and this is just like a stock.  You want to buy it when it is low and not high.  Clients are starting to see a real bargains out there, and they leave this office knowing that sellers are selling and not giving away.
