The weekend before Christmas, WSDOT crews worked to complete all three runs of pipe in the new emergency pumping system to protect I-405 from a heavy rainstorm. The pipe systems are diverting Thunder Hills Creek, which normally flows through a culvert under I-405. This culvert collapsed in the Dec. 3 rainstorm, creating the need for emergency repairs. Completing the new pumping system has allowed WDOT to open all I-405 lanes and Talbot Road to traffic again.
WDOT continues to develop a design to replace the entire 400-foot long culvert that runs 60 feet under I-405. This culvert replacement project will be difficult work on challenging terrain. They have already started communications with local businesses and government agencies about the work and potential future lane closures. Crews will begin installing the new culvert in late January or early February and be complete in spring 2008.
Here's your chance to provide input on future transportation improvements
The Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) wants to hear from you: What are your transportation priorities and concerns, what transportation alternatives would you like to see in the region's transportation plan , and what are your environmental concerns? This month the PSRC is hosting a series of meetings to update the region's long-range transportation plan, called Destination 2030, to keep people moving as the region grows. These public meetings offer you a chance to share your transportation views and get information on key projects in your area.
PSRC staff will be available to discuss the transportation plan at the following locations:
Seattle: Jan. 10, Noon to 2 p.m.
PSRC, 1011 Western Avenue, #500
WSDOT staff for the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project and Alaskan Way Viaduct and Seawall Replacement Project also will be available.
Bellevue: January 15, 4 to 7 p.m.
City Hall, 450 - 110th Avenue
WSDOT staff for the I-405 Projects and SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project also will be available.
