The walls are plaster-lath, most of the original kitchen and bath floors have a four inch layer of concrete under the tile. Have you ever painted textured walls? Some contractors in the area pride themselves on finishing touches that will look great and last long. Did you realize people used to hang pictures from the crown molding? Its not uncommon to overlay ceilings and flooring but be aware of what your getting into. These older homes were built with stone foundations 16" thick. I'm not a plumber or electrician but I know the difference between clay tile drains, PVC, Galvanized, Copper, Pex plumbing and knob and tube wiring.
