Berryessa Art and Wine Festival

Every year on the Saturday of Mother's day weekend, San Jose holds the Berryessa Art and Wine Festival very near Milpitas and bordering Penitencia Creek. Even though this is a one day festival, there are many booths and quite a few locals as well as travelers to this event. Featuring music throughout the day and a variety of food booths as well as wines and beer from different California sources such as Gugliemo and Gordon Bierch. One of my favorite stops every year is a booth run by Jon from Watsonville. He comes up with new and unusual solar powered garden devices that move and wiggle in the sun. No garden is complete without a wiggly solar powered bug in my own humble opinion. This year also had a police horse wandering the grounds to keep and eye out for problems or spare carrots. Next year I will have to remember to bring a spare carrot just in case. I purchased a mesh cowboy hat so that I can garden in the shade and still feel the breeze. There was also some jewelry that was absolutly lovely at Beadzilla that I had to have. I also managed to pick up a couple of small items for Mom who couldn't come with me this year. There is plenty of parking and the area has a very nice small lake and is a pleasant place to eat and walk about. the atmosphere is very child friendly and I make it a point to always come to both this art and wine festival as well as the Milpitas Art and Wine festival in August.

Farmers Market Time!

Farmers Market Time! Farmers Market Time!, originally uploaded by debbiegiordano.

http://www.debbiegiordano.com/I really have to suggest that you try the berryessa farmers market on the border of Milpitas and San Jose. Located across from Piedmont High School and the Berryessa US Post office in the foothills of North San Jose's Penitencia Creek Area. The amount of fresh produce and other assorted food items as well as fresh cut flowers really make this a pleasurable 30 minutes to an hour stop. Plenty of vendors are offering samples too for those that are looking for a cooking adventure. Try something new or pick up something fresh and support California Grown and local farmers at the same time. Open Saturdays from May to October. Very friendly smoke free environment. Some of the items I picked up this last weekend included Blueberries, Strawberries and Cherry's. Not to mention spicy mango chutney, some potato paratha breat and some meat pies. Across the street, the Piedmont High School jazz band was also washing cars for any donation. This area is also marked off as being 'bike' friendly so if you like your exercise, bring your bike along. No dogs or smoking as previously stated. Last Saturday (memorial day weekend) it was still a bit smoky due to the Santa Cruz fire going on in neighboring Santa Cruz County about thirty or so miles away. This farmers market is only three or so miles outside of the south Milpitas border and is within five mintes driving time. Go early if you can, and be cautious. There is a Kettle Korn booth so if you are bringing the kids, be prepared!

Milpitas California

Milpitas is a suburb of the high tech mecha of the Silicon Valley with some of the major electronic headquarters within city limits. At the base of the mountains, with easy access to several major freeways make Milpitas an ideally located family oriented community.

On January 26, 1954, Milpitas was incorporated as a city. Milpitas has been home to one of the original Ford Mustang plants and has been one of the main California junctions of the Union Pacific Railroad 'back in the day'.

One of the bay area's most fun Art and Wine festivals takes place in Milpitas during the month of August. If you have not visited Milpitas before, be sure to try to visit the festival in the summer. It is a wonderful and sunny event.
