Many marinas, harbors and yacht clubs are sprinkled throughout Catawba Island. Turning down any street will eventually lead you to water and all that it entails in NW Ohio. Charter Boats are readily available, as summertime is when the world famous Lake Erie Yellow Perch are in high season. Also a favorite is the Lake Erie Walleye - a must-have item on any Catawba Island restaurant menu.

I have been officially banned from fishing for perch with the big guys, as I always out-fish them. Those fragile male egos just can't take a female catching all the fish I guess. Of course, my daddy did raise a tomboy!

Also famous on the island is the Catawba Peach. August is prime season and roadside stands offer these scrumptious fruits for a modest price.

Because of its location on the Great Lakes and their moderate temperatures, many wineries also are sprinkled throughout the area. Mon Ami Winery has been a local favorite for decades. The past several years Mon Ami has offered outdoor tables, meals, and entertainment. Families love to bring their own blankets and sprawl on the lawn to watch the local bands and drink the local wine. Cream Concord and Catawba Reds are a favorite.

My son who is now nearly 30 is still remembered as the child who set the popcorn machine on fire at Mon Ami.

If you're near Ohio's North Coast, take an east turn at the bridge in Marblehead and spend the day in beautiful Catawba Island Community.

Fox Hollow Strayer Farms in Maumee Ohio

Fox Hollow Strayer Farmers is located in Maumee Ohio at the cusp of Monclova Ohio, between Strayer Road and Salisbury Road. It is conveniently located to Interstate 475, Interstate 75, and State Route 20 and 24.

One of the most attractive features of this subdivision in Maumee Ohio is the country atmosphere, but only moments from grocery shopping, restaurants, and Fallen Timbers Outdoor Mall.

In the midst of these homes is a common area with walking path and fountain in a well- maintained pond. A beautiful red barn, part of the original landscape and built in 1855 is still in the subdivision and also lends a country atmosphere to these homes.

The school district is Anthony Wayne, an excellent rated Ohio school according to the Ohio Department of Education website school report card.

There are currently two active listings in this delightful Maumee Ohio subdivision priced between $225,000 and $229,900. There have been four sales in the previous twelve months between $214,500 and $244,500. Most homes are two-story with attached 2 car garage, either 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Lots sizes are ample and most homes were built between 1994 and 1997.

Located across the street on Strayer Road is The Church on Strayer - a popular place to worship.

Walt Churchill's Market is only a block away on Kit Lane and has been a local favorite for many years. Wine tastings on the outdoor patio are planned often, plus fresh lunches and dinners. A sushimi chef is on premises and prepares far east delicacies.

Also nearby to Fox Hollow Strayer Farms are a veterinarian, pizza place, hair salon, gas station, hotels, eye doctor, credit union, and bank.

I just love a good Farmer's Market in Toledo Ohio. If you do, too, then hopefully the following is helpful to you. There's nothing better than fresh produce - fresh from the fields of NW Ohio. I never realized there were so many around the Toledo Ohio area.

Tuesdays - Augsburg Church 3-7pm - 1342 W. Sylvania Avenue - Toledo Ohio

Tuesdays - Fallen Timbers Mall at the corner of Stitt and Jerome - Monclova Ohio

Wednesday - Westgate, 3-7 pm in the Elder Beerman Parking Lot at Secor and Central - Toledo Ohio

Thursday - Mayberry Square in Sylvania Ohio - 3-7pm, off Centenniel Rd, just South of Erie

Thursday - Perrysburg Ohio Downtown on Louisiana Ave. - 3-8pm

Thursday - West Side of Toledo Ohio- Church of Our Saviour Parking Lot - 2820 Alexis Rd (near Whitmer High School).

Saturday - Downtown Toledo Ohio - 8am -2pm between Erie and St. Clair on Market Street

Of course the Westgate Farmers Market is located in a shopping center parking lot, so why not bring a cooler with you for your vegetables and check out the sales at Elder Beerman? Or go to Costco or Fresh Market or grab a bite to eat at Al's Diner near Executive Pkwy?

Fallen Timbers Farmers Market in Monclova Ohio is also located in an outdoor shopping mall, plus has beautiful water attractions and fountains. This mall is struggling a bit, so why not take a few moments to stroll around the mall and relax?

Perrysburg Farmers Market (which I will be checking out this very evening, so watch for a new post with lots of photos!) is smack dab in the middle of Dowtown Perrysburg Ohio. I plan on having a margarita at Casa Baron Restaurant afterwards, which is located in the midst of the Farmers Market.

And of course the weekend Farmers Market in Dowtown Toledo Ohio. Libbey Glass Outlet is located adjacent to the Farmers Market and offers many quality items at discount prices.
