Toledo/Swanton Ohio: Oak Openings Preserve Metropark

What a great place to spend a day, and best of all, it's FREE! It's refreshing to get the family away from the daily hustles and bustles of life and go and do something fun together, that doesn't involve technology, conditioned air spaces, spending money, or sitting around. Our kids had so much fun. From catching catipillars, to bird-watching (or squirrel-watching), & following the maps & trails. The trails are all marked with color coded arrows, which really keeps the kids attention to get to the next arrow and knowing they're leading us the right way. They also enjoyed playing in the sand on the sand dunes, crossing the bridges, and getting to play on the playground equipment at the end of the hike. If you live or are visiting Northwest Ohio, the Frederick Family suggests taking a day and "re-connect" with nature and spend a day enjoying it at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark in Swanton, Ohio. Can't wait to go back in the fall! More information here: http://www.metroparkstoledo.com/metro/parksandplaces/index.asp?page_id=510

Maumee, Ohio – Rolf Park Swimming Pool

We recently had the privilege of visiting Maumee's Rolf Park pool. My wife, kids, and I all agree that it's a great place to swim & play. It's great for all different ages, as well (I have 4, ages: 11, 4, 3 & 1). The older kids can use the water slides while the younger ones enjoy the "jungle gym" and different stations in the shallow waters. We swam & played for nearly 4 hours and we all had a blast. It's a little pricey, but, I believe, well worth the money (30 bucks for 5 of us). We plan on getting a season pass next year & save a little money. If you live in the Northwest Ohio area, have kids, and want a great, clean place to swim & have fun, I highly suggest visiting.

More info about rates, hours, rules, etc. found here: http://www.maumee.org/recreation/pool.info.htm

Get off your knees, would ya?

And quit praying for snow!!! I think we've had enough already and my back can't take another day of shoveling the driveway. Saw this on the way back from a Defiance Ohio Home Inspection and I just had to share. In the light of things, I got a good chuckle from it. So now I'm praying, for whoever's praying for the snow, to please heed the sign's message. Thanks! And I'm sure others will thank you too.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow - NOT!

BTW, if you're reading this from some warm, tropical-like area, you are strictly prohibited from commenting on this post!!! LOL.

Ahhhh, that's more like it!

Archbold Ohio Home Inspector visits Woodland Park

Finally had a break from inspections, so I packed up the four kids and headed to Archbold, Ohio while my wife/secretary got caught up on office work.

My first impression was very high after first arriving at this beautiful park. My kids' impressions were apparently the same, because 2 out of the 4 already had their seatbelts off, before I even parked (the other 2 probably would have also, if they were able). First off, the facility is very, very large, with many open areas, including numerous soccer fields. There is also a sidewalk encompassing the entire area, which is great for joggers, walkers, bike riding, etc. In addition, there were even trails in the woods, to enjoy the wonders of nature and/or to get out of the hot sun for a bit.

The playground equipment is incredible, with nothing quite comparable in the Northwest Ohio area. There's three very tall, tube slides, which even satisfied my 10 year old, which is hard to do sometimes. Rock climbing walls, a little tikes area, and basketball courts, also add to the fun. The playground area's floor is a soft, composite padding which is also a very nice feature, especially for my 11 month old knees & hands, for crawling around. The kids also thoroughly enjoyed running up and down or rolling on the sledding hill.

If you haven't visited Woodland Park yet, I encourage you to take the family and enjoy everything it has to offer. It is truly a wonderful facility, well kept, and a great way to spend some time having fun, and best of all it's FREE.

It also poops out the kids to give Mom & Dad some peace & quiet for a bit :)
