The US Senate just passed the bill with 2 billion dollars for the cash for clunkers programs. The bill was already passed by the House with lots of extra pork of course. The bill now goes to the president's desk for him to sign off on the bill. The cash for clunkers program has proven to be very successful and is credited with helping Ford post a quarterly profit.
The other program that seems to be really putting money into the hands of tax payers is the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit. This program expires on December 1, 2009. So anbody thinking of buying a home needs to act fast. There was a bill submitted to extend this credit but the bill has stalled so I wouldn't count on it being extended.

Taylor, Bean, & Whitaker received notificatgion on August 4th that it was suspended by FHA from originating or servicing and new FHA loans. That came after the FBI raided the TBW headquarters. TBW failed to submit the audited financials required by HUD. TBW also didn't address irregular transactions that appeared to constitiuet fraud.
Taylor, Bean, & Whitaker will not fund any more loans and will not complete any loans currently being underwritten. TBW going out of business is another blow to mortgage brokers as TBW was one of the biggest wholesale channels for mortgage brokers. This will add another nail in the coffin of the mortgage broker as the government tries to force mortgage brokers out of business in favor of retail banks. This is all bad for the consumer because it has been shown statistically that consumers typically get better rates and terms from mortgage brokers or mortgage bankers than from retail banks such as Wells Fargo.
