Living in Douglas County, Colorado: 60 degrees in March!

Today is March 9th. One of the reasons I love living in Colorado is I can say that it was 60 degrees in Colorado the 1st full week of March. Yes, it snows. Sometimes a lot. We had our fair share in December and January, and even a bit in February. But here it is, March 9th and spring is in the air, has been since at least March 5th and looks like it will continue to be through at least next Tuesday.

So, you are thinking of relocating to Colorado and are ready to live the good life? Perhaps Douglas County in particular? A little snow (sometimes more than others), a lot of sun? Yes! So, prepare yourself, as you will have many days like today and you need to know what you can do on a 60 degrees day in March. Just yesterday I was showing Highland Ranch homes to a family relocating here from Minnesota and they were asking where some fun outdoor places were to visit on a beautiful afternoon.

Let's say you have 90 minutes free in the middle of the day, where would you go, what would you do? Here's a sampling in or near Douglas County, some are just outside the Douglas County in Littleton border but very close as multiple counties merge on the south side of Denver.

High Line Canal TrailheadTake a run on the High Line Canal
The High Line Canal is a spectacular trail that begins in Waterton Canyon area, continues through the western side of of Highlands Ranch and runs up toward Arapahoe County and then toward Denver. This is truly a family trail, where you will see families on nature walks among McClellan Reservoir, runners along the Highlands Ranch Golf Club and bikers the whole way. The old cottonwood trees decorate this trail and it will only be a few more weeks before the buds appear on the trees and by June will beautify the trail even further with their leaves & blooms. Whether you have 30 minutes for a quick run or 90 for a long ride, this is a spot for the perfect March spring afternoon.

Outdoor Shopping at Aspen Grove Lifestyle Center
Want to enjoy the fresh spring air while shopping. Don't miss the Apsen Grove Lifestyle Center. With an outstanding variety of shopping, there is something for everyone. Enjoy a coffee or lunch at an outdoor patio and soak up the sun even further. Or stay for dinner at one of the feature restaurants. Come back in the summer for their annual evening outdoor movies as well. Aspen Grove is also nestled between the Mineral Light Rail Station and the RTD Park-N-Ride so public transportation is a breeze here.

Take the family to the Park
Douglas County is loaded with parks, literally. It's a playground paradise. Whether you are in Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Rock, Sedalia, Lone Tree, Larkspur, or Littleton, there is truly a park for you. All Douglas County parks are well maintained and you will even start to see some crocus blooms poking through and some daffodil stems - saying Hello Spring! Whether its tennis, skate boarding, baseball, kite flying or just reading under a tree, spring has sprung in the park.

It is still a little early for fishing, some ponds are still a bit frosty on top, but they are beginning to thaw and its time to get that power bait out. Chatfield is a state park and their are many more activities there than just fishing, its a Colorado outdoor-lover delight right outside the city! Golf
Golf courses abound in Colorado and alas, they are finally mostly opened after the winter snows. Some of my favorites in Douglas County are Highlands Ranch Golf Club, Lone Tree Golf Club, Canterberry Golf Club and Red Hawk Ridge.

This is truly just a sampling of the outdoor activities for a spring day in Douglas County. Look forward to more, as I don't just work here, I live here and love it! Love the snow, but I love the sun even more!

Denver Restaurant Week 2007 is Almost Here!

So often I will have a real estate client that relocates to Denver and will ask me many questions about the local area. Steve, Where does your wife get her hair cut? Who cleans your carpets? And where do you go to eat? Well, its no secret that Denver restaurants have claimed a voice of their own & we have attracted some of the top chefs in the country to open shop in Denver.

So, how do you decide where to go when there are so many to choose from. There are the old time favorites and many new restaurants popping up all the time.

Well, here's a perfect way. The Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau announces that February 24 - March 2 is Denver Restaurant Week 2007. Hundreds of local eateries open up with their culinary delights for all of us to try a multi-coursed fixed priced meal for two of $52.80 ($26.40 for one). Restaurants that are participating are listed here and is a fantastic way to try out some of the hottest spots in downtown Denver & the surrounding area (Belmar/Lakewood, DTC, Sedalia & Stapleton to name a few). You can even search the restaurants by neighborhood. The menus to choose from are listed too - don't forget to make reservations, some you can even make online, this will be a popular event!
