On Thursday, August 7th, the much looked forward to, annual Littleton Western Welcome Week will begin.
The events continue for 11 days, with Festival Day on Saturday, August 16th. The Festival Day includes a Children's Firefighters Parade, The Grand Parade, and the Arts & Craft Fair throughout the streets of old Littleton.
Festival Day is one of highlights of the week of course but many other events throughout the week are not to be missed as well. This year there are 77 events scheduled. Here are a few. Personally, we are going to try and make it to the Hawkquest event on 8/12. My daughter saw this presentation with a group of friends and loved it, and we will try to check it out as a family this time around.
Bag of Books Sale - begins 8/7 @ 9am
Family Night - Concert in the Park & Fireworks - 8/8 Sterne Park
Colorado Scottish Festival - 8/9 Highlands Heritage Park, Highlands Ranch
Stampede For Open Space - 8/9 - Carson Nature Center
Brad Bradford Rubber Ducky Race- 8/10 - Littles Creek in Sterne Park
Summer Pops Concert - 8/11
Golf Tournament - 8/12 - Arrowhead Golf Club
Hawkquest Night Out - 8/12 - Carson Nature Center
Festival Day - 8/16 - All Day! - Children's Parade - Grand Parade & Craft Fair
As I have said in the past, here are some tips for Festival Day - get there early to find parking not to out, bring sunscreen and for the Grand Parade, you will want to arrive early to secure a shady spot to view the parade, especially if its a hot day.

Every few months in Douglas County CO the Household Chemical Round-Up takes place, giving residents an
opportunity to properly and safely dispose of hazardous waste.
The next Round-Up will take place this Saturday, July 26th form 9:00 am - 3:00 pm in Highlands Ranch, CO at Shea Stadium and is open to all Douglas County residents. Make sure you remember to bring a valid drivers license or utility bill to show your residency.
The Highlands Ranch Metro Districts web site displays a few list of all of the items that can be disposed of at the Round-Up. A full list of the event sponsors is also available there as well. It is also noteworthy that they are asking folks to consider a optional $20 donation to help off-set the cost of proper, safe disposal.
Now I have seen this line at times and I am going to just suggest that if you plan on disposing this Saturday, head over early as if it is anything like it has been in the past, you will be glad to get through the line early in the day. The next event will not be until September in Castle Rock, so if you have waste to dispose of - this is a great opportunity to do it now.
And lastly, according to the HRMD web site, they are still looking for volunteers for this Saturday's event. So if you have some time to spare, check it out.
Shea Stadium is located in Highlands Ranch on Town Center Drive, just east of Santa Fe Drive and next to Redstone Park.
If you are moving soon or have just moved into Douglas County - for sure you have some paint cans or other items that you need to dispose of. Propane tanks are also common items that folks need to get rid of when they are moving - if this is the case - this event will be perfect for you.

If you are any type of golf fan and are around Denver, you probably already know that next week the PGA Men's Senior Open will be held in Colorado Springs at the Broadmoor.
Personally I am very excited about this - I received two tickets myself for the Open for Christmas, and it should be fun. In years past I had been a regular at The International, and now that is gone it is great to get some serious golf here again. Originally I was planning to take my son but he will now be visiting his cousins out of state so instead one of my lucky friends is scoring the extra ticket.
Some of the big names playing in the Open that I am most looking forward to are Greg Norman, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson, Fuzzy Zoeller, Ben Crenshaw and Mark O'Meara- a full list of players is here. After Greg Norman's amazing week last week at the British Open - I am pretty excited to get to see him play.
The Open begins on July 28th with the practice rounds and the official Round 1 will begin Thursday with the Championship Round being played on Sunday August 3rd. The full schedule can be found here.
Tickets are still available here or at King Soopers. Children under 17 are admitted free with an adult.
The Broadmoor is located in Colorado Springs and can be reached generally in about an hour from the south Denver suburbs - however I would allow for plenty of extra time the week of the Senior Open.

Last night as I was heading out the door from my home in Highlands Ranch for a walk, it looked like it was going to be an amazing sunset. I was right.

I am lucky as I have a very nice mountain view from my home and am fortunate to see amazing sunsets on a fairly regular basis.

Living so close to the foothills, I often have the storms roll in quickly but seems like they are generally over pretty fast as well.

Last night was one of those - the clouds rolled in around 5:30 but by 7:30 they were on their way out - leaving an amazing sunset behind.

Sometimes I have Denver real estate clients that are very specific and know that they want to be able to view sunsets like this on a regular basis. To have a mountain view property will be a bit more, but it certainly can be worth it. If you are looking for a home with a view, make sure your Denver Realtor® tells you how to research land that could someday interfere with your view.

I have written about Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch before, I am a little partial because it is in my own neighborhood. But the fact of the matter is Redstone Park has many great offerings for its residents and visitors.
Whenever I head to Redstone Park we have a great time. Whether its just a stroll with the kids or the dog, a quick loop or tow or three around the park on my bike - or a longer outing to the fishing pond or playground - it is so nice to have such a great spot so close by.
Redstone Park is located on the west side of Highlands Ranch, often referred to as Westridge. It is one of the larger parks in Highlands Ranch and its offerings and activities are almost endless. It is located at the intersections of Town Center Drive and Foothills Canyon Blvd, just east of Santa Fe Drive. It is nestled between the neighborhoods of Westridge Pointe and Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
A stocked fishing pond can begin your adventure, with a trickling stream running through it, but don't forget to pack a picnic to enjoy for later at one of the shelters or of course you can always make your own picnic spot with a blanket upon one of the many fields. You can also bring Fido on a leash, or head over to the dog park on the east side of the park (cross Foothills Canyon Blvd) to let your doggy pals romp free.

Is tennis your thing? Lighted tennis courts sit next to the Redstone tennis center where lessons will begin shortly for the spring and summer.
Have little ones in tow? They will be worn out by the end of the day by the variety of activities on the
playground - between a sand play area, 3 different play structures and swings their adventures will never end. The play area is also surrounded by good size boulders, which seem to be a popular spot for the pre-school set to hop from one to the next.
Have older kiddos or feeling adventurous yourself? Bring your skateboard or trickster bike and head to the bike/skate park. This is a popular area and even if you aren't daring to try and ride yourself, its fun to stop by and see what everyone is up to.
Keep on heading to the west and you will run into the ball fields and batting cage. The ball fields are lit as well
and are always hopping through the summer months. Some of the smaller fields become soccer fields in the spring and football fields in the fall - and then there are also 3 other soccer fields that run behind the homes of Westridge Pointe.
All in all, this park is full of fun for everyone. Restrooms are located in three areas (playground, tennis courts & ball fields) and parking is plentiful throughout the park. Like most park shelters in Highlands Ranch, they can be reserved for a small fee for parties and gatherings. When the parking lots are empty you are sure to find families teaching little ones the art of two-wheel biking, it has become a favorite local spot to master bike-riding
with its large flat lots.
Ready to venture further, walk to the east side of the park, head toward the golf course (cross Town Center Drive) and you will see the header trail to the Highline Canal. This leader trail trickles through the golf course and the homes in the Golf Club before meeting the main trail. Bike or walk,
both are great for this trail. Oh, and the mountain views from almost anywhere in the park are phenomenal.
If you are interested in living close to Redstone Park in Highlands Ranch or if you are relocating to Denver, I would love to help you do that.
