In The International Business Times Again! A $71 Bathroom Transformation.

Looking for an inexpensive fix for your bathroom? Does your client's home need a mini-facelift before listing? You can make a big difference to a bathroom for a mere $71.

An article that I wrote for REALTOR® Magazine's online blog Styled, Staged & Sold was posted recently on their site. It was reprinted by The International Business Times with the permission of REALTOR® Magazine since they now own the copyright to it. This is the second article that I've written that the IBT have picked up!

Hamilton, Ontario - Is It Finally Getting The Break It Deserves?

For as long as I've been around, the City of Hamilton (Steeltown as it's affectionately known) has been viewed by some as a less than desirable place to live and unjustly so, for the most part in my opinion. Turn over enough rocks and you'll expose the seedy underbelly of any city. As Hamilton's "next door neighbour", I've heard it all. Some would even view Hamilton as the "Cousin Ed" of Ontario. Who I'm referring to, is Cousin Ed in the movie National Lampoon's Vacation. You remember him don't you?

Is that all about to change for Hamilton? It will, if real estate developer Harry Stinson has his way. Stinson and a group of private investors recently purchased the Stinson School located on Stinson Street. Apparently the name is just coincidence. According to what I've read, Harry Stinson is not aware of being related to the founder, Ebenezer Stinson. This project must have been meant to be.

Stinson School, built in 1895 on a 1½ acre lot, was a former elementary school in downtown Hamilton. It is now designated a heritage building. Stinson is planning to build 70 lofts and townhomes. Small lofts will start at $250,000 and the penthouse will go for a respectable $600,000 according to the Toronto Star newspaper. Here is a link to the project: www.stinsonschool.com.

This isn't the only good news coming out of Hamilton these days. It seems as though the artsy crowd have taken a shine to the city as well. Apparently some of Toronto's art studios have packed their bags and opened up shop in Hamilton as well.

Is Hamilton going to become "the" place to live? It just might be one day. I guess only time will tell, but in the meantime, Cousin Ed, you better put on your Sunday finery, things are going posh in Steeltown.

REALTOR Magazine's Online Blog 'Styled, Staged & Sold' - I Just Became a Guest Blogger!

Aside from home staging, another one of my passions is writing. I don't write for a living, but I sure get a lot of enjoyment from it. Since things have slowed down a little over the last couple of weeks, I decided to put a little more effort into my writing during "low tide". I don't know about other Home Stagers, but for me, my business seems to come in waves. Everything comes all at once and I'm crazy busy, and then it slows down for a week or two. I guess that isn't a bad thing though, it gives you a chance to catch your breath and regroup for the next wave.

I wanted to share with my friends and peers on Active Rain that I was accepted a couple of weeks ago to be a guest blogger on REALTOR Magazine's online blog 'Styled, Staged & Sold'. I wrote my first article during "quiet time". It was posted on their site yesterday, but even more exciting, REALTOR Magazine decided to include it in their E-Newsletter which went out today to a very large subscription base! Generally, being a guest blogger on their site is a one-time event, but they have invited me to submit another article so I'm pretty excited about that too.

Is a budding career in writing on the horizon as well as home staging? Probably not, but hey, you can't blame a girl for dreaming big. After all, home staging and interior decorating were once but a dream too ;-).

There's a 300 word limit to their blog posts, so it's not too lengthy if you want to check it out. Here's the link:

HGTV's The Stagers - Do You Want A Third Season? It's Time To Let Them Know!

I hope that everyone has been enjoying Season Two of The Stagers as much as I have. I may not have been doing reviews of each episode as I did last season, but don't think that means I'm over the show; in fact, the complete opposite is true. I just found that writing the reviews was taking up a lot of my time.

Season Two is polished. The Stagers has really found its groove. The frantic pace of Season One has been left behind and replaced with a show that flows so well. It's tough to cram so much information, drama, and décor eye candy into one 30 minute episode (23 minutes if you remove the commercials) but the team at Paperny Films has managed to pull it off. Viewers aren't left feeling short of breath at episode's end from the velocity (although I still wish each episode aired for 1 hour).

The high drama has been scaled back and the focus is now more on the actual staging of each property, which is really what it's all about. We still get our little infusions of Matthew Finlason's trademark personality - good thing that hasn't been taken out as we all know that he steals the show.

In case you weren't aware, here's a little newsflash for you. At the recently held Leo Awards the following well-deserved awards were presented:

Best Information or Lifestyle Series: The Stagers - Producers: David Paperny, Cal Shumiatcher & Trevor Hodgson

Best Host in an Information or Lifestyle Series: Matthew Finlason - The Stagers.

Best Director in an Information or Lifestyle Series: Keith Behrman - The Stagers

Best Screenwriting in an Information or Lifestyle Series: Margot Daley - The Stagers

So here's what I'm thinking. Would you like to see another season of The Stagers? If so, let it be known to HGTV by commenting on this post. Let's make sure that they hear us! I know that they paid attention to the communal voice of Active Rain in Season One so if you want to see more, speak out now! Better yet, if you want a third season, also tell them what you'd like to see and what they could do to make it even better next year if they're back. You know the old expression "the squeaky wheel gets the oil", well, start squeaking!
