Quarryville Pennsylvania's Middle Octorara Presbyterian Women to Host Lenten Tea

03-13-12
Don Hess

While this Quarryville Realtor doesn't qualify as an attendee for this event, it still sounds interesting and informative. On Saturday March 4th at 2PM at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church the MOPW (Middle Octorara Presbyterian Women) will hold a tea. The tea has become an annual tradition attended by as many as 150 women each year. The church is located at 1199 Valley road, four miles east of Quarryville on route 372.

The tea is an opportunity for women to share social and spiritual interaction. Attendees are invited to bring their favorite tea cups so conversations at the tables often begin with stories behind the respective cups. MOPW member Kristine Hileman said that “some women dress up with hats and others ware ordinary street cloths. Both are fine,” she adds.

Prior to sitting down to tea the women are treated to entertainment with a spiritual message. This year there will be a chalk talk by Elva Hurst titled “In a Garden of Flowers.” Hurst describes the talk as “relaxing and a cause for enjoying God's gift to you in flowers.”

There will be refreshments, desserts and a wide choice of teas. Hot water will be served from granite ware teapots supplied by Rose Griest from her extensive collection. There is no charge for admission, but seating is limited. Call Boni Henry at 717 687-8554 to register. Groups of eight may reserve tables together. Women of all ages including teenagers and children may attend.

This Quarryville Realtor will be giving his wife a heads up on this event.

Shoe Leather Technology in Quarryville, PA

03-09-12
Don Hess

Yes, this Quarryville Realtor is on Face Book. Yes I'm on Craig's List. Yes I utilize the social media to market my business. Obviously I write for my Blog “Live Quarryville.” Yes I have multiple sources linked to and driving everything back to my web site. Yes I still do regular mailings. Having said all that I want to put in a word for what I'm calling “shoe leather technology”.

Sounds kind of strange to say something like shoe leather technology this far into the 21st Century. Look around, we have devices that even the science fiction writers and movie producers could not envision just thirty years ago. But today I utilized shoe leather technology.

It was a nice day, sunny and not too cold. It gave me the opportunity to get out and work my farming territory. I confess, winter weather and a cold that seems to have moved in as my permanent cohabitant has put me a little behind my schedule for walking my farming territory. But today I had a chance to catch up.

Yes, Quarryville is a relatively small town so I walk my territory dropping off valuable information concerning the current market in the borough and also an additional “bonus”. Usually one of my wife's great recipes or something else the recipients may find useful. (Not everyone finds Real Estate market data as interesting as I do. Imagine that!)

My doctor thinks it's great that I take these regular walks in addition to working out in a gym three times a week. BUT the real benefit to walking the territory is that I frequently get to meet the people that live there. Today I met a wonderfully nice lady and we had a great chat. We discovered that we both have lived in Quarryville for some time, but never met. (I've been here 40 years and she 30.) We discovered common friends and acquaintances. We are no longer strangers. Now I don't know if she'll ever sell her house. If she does she may chose someone else to represent her, but so what? I met a nice person and from now on when we see each other out somewhere, we will no longer be strangers. This Quarryville Realtor thinks that's valuable in itself.

Artist Reception at Quarryville, PA Library

03-07-12
Don Hess

As you've probably guessed by now this Quarryville Realtor thinks that the Quarryville Library is one of this community's major assets. Below is another sample of their service to the community:

Quarryville Library, 357 Buck Road in Quarryville, PA announced that they will be hosting a reception and show for local artist Henrietta Thomas. The show will open with the reception from 1 to 3 PM on Saturday March 10 at the library. Ms Thomas' watercolor paintings will be displayed in the C.X. Carlson Gallery. Come meet the artist and enjoy the show. Refreshments will be served.

The paintings will be on display during library hours through Friday April 27th. For information phone 717 786-1336.

A long time ago I fancied myself a watercolor artist. This Quarryville Realtor plans on attending to see just how amateurish my efforts really were.
