Hopefully you will be in Red River New Mexico this summer to enjoy our friendly community and cool mountain air as well as attend a few of the fantastic events. The Red River Chamber of Commerce has been working hard on making the existing Red River events bigger and better as well as adding new events to the Red River calendar. Make sure to mark your calendars for some of the fun events.
When you are visiting this summer you can't help but notice the beautiful new building blessing our town. The new log and stone building, standing where the Mountain Shop was located, now houses Red River's newest retail shop, "Climates." Climates offers visitors and locals Red River's first outdoor store, selling outdoor and camping gear including backpack's, tents & hammocks. They also have a $9.95 t-shirt outlet, fantastic clothing and jewelry, as well as Red River souvenirs and a tanning bed. The Mountain Shop that burned down last year has moved into the shop next door to the Gold Nugget in the center of town.
The Red River Ski Area is working hard on replacing the "red chair" lift with a faster three person chair lift. The ski area will be offering summer chair lift rides on the "copper chair" this summer. Don't miss the opportunity to take a ride to the top and enjoy the views to the tip restaurant for a beer and a burger or pack a lunch and have a family picnic and enjoy the breath taking views. The ski area's Lift House restaurant and bar will also be open this summer for lunch and drinks.
The Red River Community House has over 400 free children and family activities all summer long including guided hikes, crafts, teen nights, line dancing, music, movies on the lawn and Red River history tours.
Another great addition to Red River this year is Studio 23. A full service beauty salon offering hair color and cuts, manicures and massages. They are located on Main Street in the Ponderosa Lodge.

BUYING A CABIN IN RED RIVER NEW MEXICO SEARCH RED RIVER NM CABINS FOR SALE
Buying a Red River NM vacation cabin can be a wonderful and complex adventure!
Many families began building cabins around Red River in the late 1930's and 1940's, although the majority were constructed around Red River from the 1960's to today.
Most cabins are rather small with an average of two bedrooms, one bathroom, 1000 square feet and have very little storage. Many families, over time, have restored the original cabins and added more living and storage space.
Cabins are the most desired real estate in Red River and a small log cabin on the river can cost up to $350.00 per square foot. Log cabins are valued up to 20% more than their wood or bark sided counterparts.
If you are planning on enjoying your Red River cabin through the winter make sure it is accessible, heated and has a permitted well and septic system.
Because many cabin's were built to use only in the summer they do not have a heat source or proper insulation. When these cabin's are closed for the winter they must be winterized to prevent the pipes from freezing. Many owners have remodeled their cabins to include modern heating systems, insulation and energy efficient windows and doors but...check to make sure.
Another consideration when buying a Red River cabin is winter access. The snow fall around Red River can vary by several feet from neighborhood to neighborhood and many roads are private. These roads must be plowed throughout the winter by owners or one of the many snow plowing companies to gain access to the most remote cabins. Some cabins around Red River can be quite difficult, if not impossible to reach in the winter without a snowmobile.
Most cabins in Red River are serviced by wells and septic systems. The septic system and well laws created and enforced by the EPA are ever changing.
