A REALTOR's Day Off

Yesterday was a glorious day (finally), and I was fortunate enough to get to spend it doing some of my favorite things with one of my most favorite people! We spent 3 hours (count 'em, 3), picking blueberries at Blueberry Lane Farm and Market in Frankford, Delaware.

Blueberry Lane Farm was established in the early 1950's as Ryan's Berry Farm. It has grown through the decades and now boasts 80 acres of blueberries, blackberries and siberian kiwi. Learn more at www.blueberrylanefarm.com. Although one can buy berries already picked, fresh or frozen, the most economical and fun way to achieve berriness is to pick them onesself. My friend and I each picked over 13 pounds! That's a lotta muffins!! I must admit, however, that our picking rate was not very good. It wasn't until we were driving away from the field that we noticed a section with bushes absolutely loaded to the gills (do blueberry bushes have gills?--don't think so), with berries. A return visit on this REALTOR's next day off is in the early planning stages even as I type.

But wait...there's more! After settling up with the blueberry lady and checking for ticks, we were off to our next Our Shopstop...Serendipity Quilt Shop in Dagsboro. Serendipity just celebrated its one year anniversary (Congrats!) in June, and showcases over 2,000 bolts of fabric at its Main Street location. I didn't buy anything (this time), but it is against the Quilter's Code to be within 30 miles of a quilt shop and not stop to at least look. You can take a virtual tour at www.serendipityquiltshop.com.

Finally, it was time to eat something more than blueberries. We had crab quesadillas at El Dorado on Rt. 24--delicious!! It gave great renewed energy so we could go home and wash, dry, freeze and eat more blueberries! Now I'm refreshed and ready to get back to work, helping my Buyers find, negotiate and purchase their dream home at the beach.

4th of July Festivities at the Beach

Coastal Delaware will be waving the flag and celebrating the red, white and blue from North to South this 4th of July weekend!

Kick off the fun with a visit to the Rehoboth Bandstand Thursday night at 8:00pm to enjoy and participate in the antics of Delaware Comedy Theater. This improv show will provide spontaneous entertainment for the whole family.

Bethany Beach will hold its 25th Annual 4th of July Parade on Friday, July 3rd, beginning at High Noon.

Lewes' Annual 4th of July festivities begin on 2nd Street at 8:00am with Children's Activities (running until 1:30pm). The Boat Parade is 1:30pm-4pm on the canal, and the Doo-Dah Parade is from 4pm-7pm. A Sidewalk Art Show and other goodies fill out the day.

The Rehoboth Fireworks display is scheduled to take place at the beach, across from the Star of the Sea condominiums at 9:15pm. HOWEVER, if inclement weather threatens (as it has the past 2 years), the display will be shot off any time after 8pm. The show can be seen easily from any vantage point up and down the Boardwalk. Folks are encourage to take advantage of the DART bus or Park & Ride (Surrey Rd.--turn @ County Bank, $10) to cut down on congestion in town. Park & Ride will run from 5pm-11pm.

Back to Bethany Beach, Fireworks will be displayed at dusk on Saturday, July 4th, from the beach at Wellington Street.

Have a Happy and Safe Independence Day!!

Local Lavendar Farm

I spent a lovely day lately with my P.E.O. sisters at the Lavendar Farm, outside of Georgetown, DE. I had heard of the farm before, but never knew what an enchanting place it is. We received a lavendar lecture while sitting under the luxurious trees. It seems lavendar can be used for so many things--from repelling insects to making tasty honey. There is a barn where lavendar is dried, a country store where lavendar is sold in its many manifestations, and incredible gardens. It is definately worth the trip, and an enchanting addition to a beach vacation. For more info, click here: http://www.lavenderfieldsde.com/.
