Cattle Rustling Ain't What It Used to BE!

Yep, cattle rustling has become a little more technical than the western days. Long are the days of literally roping the cattle from a herd. Fake identities, fake companies, and lots of bad checks.....this is the new cattle rustling.

kidnapped cattle

According to the Associated Press, an East Texas Man from Athens, Texas, with a prolific record of stealing cattle, was convicted and sentenced to 99 years. It sounds like a harsh sentence doesn't it?

However the DA says the man used a fake identify and a fake company name to ship the cattle. Once the cattle was shipped, the seller didn't receive payment for the goods or if they did, the checks bounced.

Testimony revealed that the man had stolen over 2,000 head of cattle which was worth approximately $1 million in the past 5 years alone. The man had been convicted in the 90's for bank fraud, which involved banks, ranchers, and cattle (feedlot) owners.

I guess the jury figured that this man, who was known as a serial cattle rustler, needs to be behind bars a while.

Denton County Man Knocked Over the Head and Sauced with Ketchup

Just when you think you've read it all...

A man was knocked unconscious and a ketchup bottle poured over his head on Sunday close to the 1200 block of South Loop 288 in Denton Texas.

The man was found by a store employee the next morning as the employee was watering plants in a shed near the store. The store employee thought the man was covered in blood and called the police.

ketchup

The police responded and the victim told the officer that he had purchased some items from the store and walked into a shed. Someone hit him in the back of the head and he lost consciousness. He awoke with a lump on the back of his head, scrapes on his knees and his pants pulled down to his ankles. He was covered in ketchup, he said. Upon investigating the scene, the officer found a pool of ketchup and a note reading "die yuppie scum" and "wose next" in letters cut from magazines.

The victim was not sexually assaulted and had suffered only minor injuries and had no idea what the notes referred to nor why anyone would want to hurt him or sauce him with ketchup.

An investigation is continuing. Let's hope they find the culprits!!
