Good News! Homer Alaska rates 94 out of 100 in the Walk Score.
Have you ever heard of the walk score for cities? They look at many factors to decide this .... Walk score basically measures how easy it is to walk to nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks and of course art shops and such! I put in Bay Realty's address 331 E Pioneer Ave Homer Alaska and it was 94 out of 100! That makes us a Walkers Paradise!

Check it out here.....

Of course I have to say maybe this score won't hold up in the winter...especially with the city threatening to cut snowplowing on the roads and sidewalks if we don't all vote to re-instate the sales tax on non prepared food... but that is a topic for another time...(scroll to the next post )

For now we will just bask in the great walk score we all know Homer has...... complete with trails and bicycle paths and wonderful people to meet along the way...

You can walk right into Bay Realty and we are here to help you find your perfect Spot in Homer Alaska!
Have you read the press release from the City Manager regarding his budget and essential service cuts?
WOW! They are going to cut a lot...
According to the Homer News they are going to cut the following:
*Eliminate Community Schools after the winter term;
* Cut eight-and-a-half city jobs, including Community Schools Director Mike Illg's position;
* Shut down the old intermediate school building housing the Boys & Girls Club and the west campus of Kachemak Bay Campus;
* Close the Homer Public Library on Mondays;
* Reduce snowplowing, sidewalk clearing and street cleaning time;
* Cut a $30,000 appropriation to the Homer Chamber of Commerce;
* Cut funding to nonprofits and reduce support for the Pratt Museum by $20,000; and
* Threaten 24-hour police, fire and EMT response.
Wow! The city is going to cut snow plowing, fire, police and the children!
Anyone think this press announcement has anything to do with the upcoming vote asking voters if they want to continue or end the non-prepared food sales tax exemption?
I mean no one would think a city leader or elected city council would play emotional roulette with our children, homes and safety from fire and bad guys....would they???? What would our founding fathers do?

Lets hope that cooler innovative heads prevail at the upcoming September 14th Monday night council meeting....Just for grins maybe those of you who care about this matter should plan on attending !
Monday night city hall......be there
