Lake Tillery and the Uwharrie Mountains are part of the Uwharrie National Forest. The forest has approx. 50,369 acres covering 78.7 sq. miles. Montgomery County is home to about 79% of this acreage. It also claims territory in Randolph and Davidson counties.

During the Great Depression the Uwharrie Mountains found itself in the midst of a gold rush. The first substantial gold strike in the US was found in this area in the late 1700's. Yes, there was "gold in them there hills" of the Uwharrie Mountains.

While the Uwharrie Mountains still offers panning for gold as a popular activity, Lake Tillery and Badin Lake also offers fabulous water sports, fishing, trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding. Living on Lake Tillery, Badin Lake and in the Uwharrie Mountains is a cherished luxury by the home owners here. Every season offers beauty in depth.

Candor Depot Express

The Candor Depot Express is a fund raising event for the restoration and relocation of the Candor Depot built in 1921. We had a great time!

We began at 4 pm in Candor, rode the train to Pinehurst. Two Fools in a Kitchen served the meal and we returned back to Candor around 7pm. What a great experience!
