Today is the first day of summer for the school kids in Seminole County, FL and my son was awake at 6:30 this morning. 6:30!!! Seriously?!? I certainly hope this is not a glimpse of things to come otherwise it's going to be a LONG summer.
Now more than ever, I am looking for things to do with the kids that won't drive me crazy or drive me broke. What I've found after only a little research is that Central Florida is stocked full of things to do with kids for little or no cost. There are zoos, ecological tours, airboat rides and petting farms. There are science centers, space centers, historical centers and lighthouses. You can go to the myriad of great beaches Central Florida has to offer or to City Walk and enjoy a free concert on one of its outdoor stages. You can hike one of the dozens of nature preserves or bike the Cross Seminole Trail, which runs 24 miles. Your family can enjoy museums exhibiting art, airplanes or racing cars. Or maybe you prefer Titanic artifacts, or even Salomon's Castle. There are hundreds of parks for walking, playing Frisbee, having a picnic lunch or just some after work down time. There are even 14 dog
parks where your furry family members can play. All these things can be done relatively inexpensive or all together free; it just takes some thinking outside the box.

The market is getting better despite all the media reports.
It drives me NUTS when day after day, news report after news report, the so called "experts" continue to forecast the bleak outlook of the housing market. There are buyers out there ready to move forward but too often they're frightened back into waiting until the market improves. How does anyone expect the market to improve when everyone is scared to make a move. It's kind of like post traumatic stress syndrome. People have either been devastated by this mortgage crisis or know some that has and is now too traumatized to move forward. Let me tell you, "YOU CAN DO IT!"
I have seen business pick up here in Central Florida. Maybe people are getting tired of the same story night after night and decided to change the channel. Whatever the reason, we're finally getting some action and let me say, "It's about time!" Central Florida has always been a great place to live. You can't beat the weather. There are international companies based here as well as some of the best medical facilities in the country and with the excellent schools in Seminole County and the myriad of things to do and places to see just minutes away, sellers and buyers alike are beginning to make their move. Calls are coming in, buyers are checking on line to see what's out there. People are slowly beginning to take those first baby steps back into the housing market. If we can just tune the media out, the economy will get better a heck of a lot quicker! Unfortunately for them, the media will then have to look elsewhere for their stories...
I wonder what Michael Jackson is up to?

I was driving my daughter and 4 of her closest friends home from a water park where they celebrated her 16th birthday. It was late and after a long day of swimming and riding water rides, I would have thought they'd be tired but, alas, they were teenagers and still full of energy, laughing and planning what they were going to do over the summer. As I drove, I just listened to them, so happy that my daughter had found such a good group of friends. It was then that it occurred to me. In my backseat, talking, laughing, goofing around and just enjoying each other was a Jew, a Muslim, a Hindu, a Christian, and an Atheist. I practically had the whole UN in my car and they weren't arguing, challenging or threatening each other nor
did one of these kids think that they were any better or their beliefs were any better than anyone else's. Boy, could the world leaders take a lesson from these kids!
We live in Central Florida, and being such a transient area with employers bringing in people from all over the world, it would be easy for people of different cultures to find areas that suit their needs and not make any overt attempts at befriending anyone not like them. It has been, fortunately, quite the contrary. I have found that here in Central Florida it is because there are so many different cultures that people are finding we have more similarities than differences. What a novel concept. We are all trying to raise and provide for our families the best way we can and pass along morals and values to make our children good, responsible citizens of the world and I had 5 such success stories in my car.
At a time when we look to the past with regret, we struggle to get through the present, and the future holds endless scary possibilities, to sit in my car and hear my daughter and her friends talk, laugh and make plans for their future makes me believe all of our future can and will be great again, if we just stop and take note of our children.

No matter what the weather, some people are never happy. I was talking with a fellow soccer mom the other night and all she did the entire time was complain about the rain, "It's raining too hard... "It's been raining too long... "It's so depressing..." Wa, wa, wa.
We live in Florida where it's sunny 90% of the year and when it does rain, it's generally a quick shower around 4:00 in the afternoon. So on those rare occasions when we do get a couple of days of rain in a row, it amost becomes like a holiday where you stay home in your pajamas and enjoy the light show outside. Now granted, it has been raining for 2 weeks and we've gone from hazardous fire conditions to puddles big enough to swim in, but before the rain, this same woman was complaining that, "It's so dry... My sinus' are killing me... The ponds are drying up..." Wa,wa,wa. Like I said, some people are never happy.
So, here's my complaint... STOP COMPLAINING!
Our grass is finally green. It's 3 feet tall, but it's green.
We get a car wash every day. They get dirty every time we take them on the road, but while they're in our driveway they're clean.
The rain has washed off the 3 inches of pollen on our cars.
Everything smells so clean and fresh after the rain.
We've had the most amazing rainbows and sunsets.
We live in Florida, people come HERE to vacation!
I know times are tough, and it's so easy to get dragged down thinking about how bad everything is, which is all the more reason to try to focus on what's good about your life. Blessings are everywhere

I love being a soccer mom. Not only do I get to watch what is probably the best game on earth, but I get to watch my daughter play it, cheer her on and catch up with friends, all while spending time in the nice warm sun. Another great perk is, because her tournaments takes us all over, I get to explore different parts of Florida and enjoy the sights just like any other tourist visiting Florida. We've gone to beaches we might not otherwise see, visited colleges that she may be interested in attending, and just drive around and sight see neighborhoods from public housing to multi-million dollar mansions.
It was during such a soccer tournament that I found the most beautiful town. The town is called Heathrow and it's near Lake Mary in Seminole County just off of I-4 and minutes away from downtown Orlando, Winter Park, and Sanford, but within 2 miles you feel like you're in the middle of the country. It's quiet and slow paced, its neighborhoods are nestled on beautiful mature tree lined streets and is home to some amazing horse farms that rival Texas' finest. Of all the cities and towns I've explored, the town of Heathrow in Florida has got to be one of the prettiest areas I've ever seen. Add to that one of the best school systems in Florida and you've got a wonderful new place to call home. Come explore and see what I mean.
