One of my best AE's just sent this out. I think it is perfect. He had worked at Homecomings Financial, and now they are out.
The Great Forest of Mortgage Companies.
Some of you may or may not know me…I have been around for quite sometime, 14yrs actually. I am not a blogger but I do feel the need to write a few words about the current situation of our industry.
For the past year and half, we’ve watched companies send emails or letters that begin something like, “Due to the turmoil in the marketplace...” or “It is with great regret to inform you…” Unfortunately these companies would end up becoming a number on that big implode list we are all too familiar with. The list has the names of many great companies that due to no fault of their own found themselves in a position of complete financial destruction.
I titled this message, “The Great Forest of Mortgage Companies” and it really is the perfect analogy of what is currently happening in the industry. There was a vast forest of mortgage companies and a great wildfire fueled by poorly performing loans in overpriced markets burned the (our) forest nearly to the ground. Those trees that didn’t burn completely were quite charred, most losing all their limbs and branches. These trees may not survive. But what happens after a great forest fire? It takes a while but you get an abundance of new growth, small saplings that don’t require as much water or sunlight than the giant oaks, maples and redwoods they replace.
Like those saplings, small mortgage lenders are entering the market to replace the lenders that burned in the great fire. These companies are lean, efficient, and able to respond immediately to market conditions. I have joined one of these saplings after years of working for top 10 national mortgage lenders. If you agree with me that the industry must renew itself with young vibrant, healthy mortgage companies, send me an email. Together we can make a better mortgage future.
I sincerely thank you for your time,
I woke up this morning, and started blogging on my website, www.JakePlanton.com. I also sent out an email to my contacts saying they could follow this event there. What are other people doing about marketing on this one? I know it's early, but if we don't get rocking on this now, we may miss the ship....do you not think??
Let me know!
Those were the words of my boss just last week. She said that at our company meeting next Tuesday, we are going to be amazed at this idea she has come up with. She said it will change our lives for ever. We will be 'financially secure for the rest of our lives.' Talk about a TEASER!
As most people know, the mortgage industry has been a tough place to be for the past year or so. We have done much better than a lot of other companies. We had our best month in 8 years a few months ago, and we do not even offer VA or FHA loans. So, we are doing ok. But what could she possibly mean with 'secure for the rest of your life?' We have about 20 loan officers, no processors (never have had them), and she says we will all be fine.
We, of course, have been throwing out idea after idea of what she could mean. We have exhausted all of them. Here is what we have thought of:
1) become our own bank
2) tie into a bigger company that allows us to do FHA, VA, and have a wearhouse line to go back too.
3) an angel investor is going to invest in us
4) she sold the company...and somehow that will help us.
As you can tell, we are stumped. You have to keep in mind that Rose City Mortgage is my boss's baby, and she would never want to do anything that would put it in harm, or make it so she would not have complete control over it.
ANY IDEAS!???!?!?
As many of you probably can relate to this post, I am an avid reader of blogs and news items. Google has a great program for this. It is called Google Reader. It updates constantly as new items are posted on your favorite blogs. I have mortgage blogs, relaxing blogs, news blogs, all kinds. I try and read all the new items that come onto active rain, but it is so hard to keep up.
Does anyone know how I can add my group updates to my Google Reader? It allows me to look through the headlines until I find one I want to read. Any ideas? Let me know!!
Does anyone every go to Craigslist, and go to the forums for housing? Where people post things, and then people comment on them, like a string, all day long? I have gone a couple of times, and the people in there are SO mean. It blows my mind. Some guy was asking about paying X number of dollars for closing costs, and the people ripped into him for being an idiot, saying things like 'you should never pay more than Y' amount for closing costs. That comment was wrong anyways. It just blows my mind how mean they can be.
People read that stuff, and they get a very negative view of us in the real estate world. I have stopped going in there because of the hate. I do love reading me some Active Rain though...so positive!
