Today marks the 233rd Birthday of the United States Marine Corp. Over the last year or so, I have learned quite a bit about the Marine Corp.
Everyday I am thankful for the freedoms I have been afforded due to the selflessness of not only those who serve or have served in the Marine Corp, but also those members of the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, as well as our local public servants, the police and fire departments.
With tomorrow being veterans day, we will all be reminded to honor those who serve. So regardless of which side of the war you are on, take a moment and thank a service person.

Well it's Halloween once again. And I no longer have little ones at home (the picture above is of my kids in 1993), so I am looking forward to all of the little Trick or Treaters that will show up at the door tonight.
Last year our standout trick or treater was Elvis! Once we dropped the candy in his bag, his response was "Thank you, Thank you very much" & he had it down! We also had the usual array of ghosts, goblins, witches, devils etc.
Fortunately the weather is going to cooperate, it will be warm enough for the kids to display their costumes, without the winter parka!
And for those of you who live in the Beech Grove area, be sure to take you kids to the Beech Grove Senior Center, located at 602 Main Street in Beech Grove for a Costume Contest. The contest is from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

With the election rapidly approaching, there are numerous campaign commercials on the television, and advertisements arriving daily.
This is a very important election for everyone, and while I can't predict what is the "correct" choice, I can comment on what I am hearing and seeing.
There is a commercial running for a local school system. A line in the commercial states that we should vote yes, for this particular proposition, so that children can have air conditioning in the school, because air conditioning as a contributing factor to whether or not the child succeeds. To me that is absurd. When I was in school, we didn't have air conditioning. And no that wasn't back when a person had to walk 10 miles, one way, uphill in three feet of snow to get to school. I do agree it can get miserable here in Central Indiana in the summer time, but school is out at the end of May usually, and starts mid August, but I am not thinking (and I could be wrong) that air conditioning is a factor in whether a child succeeds or not. Because if it were, are those of us who grew up in the times of no Air Conditioning in homes or schools unsuccessful?
So am I the only one who thinks that there is more to becoming successful than air conditioning?
