I drive around a lot looking for FSBOs (in addition to online hunting). I see a FSBO and I start scratching around for something to write with and on. Well, I got tired of that! So I took a leap into the high-tech world (my kids think I'm archaic) and bought a digital recorder. Boy do I like that new-fangled contraption. Why, I just push a button and tell it what I want to remember and I'm done! Ah, life's simple pleasures!!! : )

I read a blog at Word-press the other day written by a guy who apparently hates all Realtors. It was a blog dedicated to FSBOs telling them how they don't "need" us to help them. What caused my response to this person was the fact he called ALL agents "lazy". While I am sure there are "lazy" agents (just like there are "lazy" people in all professions) I took exception to that and responded.

I listed all the things "good" agents do and said for a three letter word "all" was a big one. I personally am not lazy. I doubt the majority of agents are lazy. The biggest thing my clients tell me is that they were impressed with me because I answer my phone! All agents, new and old and in between, this is the biggest thing that will set you apart.

While the simple act of answering your phone may seem minor, it can cost you. I represented a buyer who set a listing appointment with the listing agent on his listing---he stood them up and called three months later. By this time, they became my client and bought a $350,000 home!

Start the year off right by being a "hardworking" agent. May all your clients call you honest, punctual and hardworking, but never lazy.

I am always excited about the new year, what it holds, the possibilities, etc...I know these past few years have been challenging for many agents. I pray this year God blesses your business and everyone has a great New Year!

I am just excited about what I discovered this morning. I was all set to don my cold weather coat, warm shoes, good hat (I'm hair challenged) and go out and look up apartment addresses in person. But I kept thinking, there has to be a better way WITHOUT paying for it.

Well, I found it (at least in my area). Find one of those FREE apartment books, go to the FREE white pages online and do a reverse look-up entering only the street address. Walla! It gives names AND the addresses (did I say for FREE?). Enjoy!
