It is not every day that you can see a raging wildfire from the window of your office. These past 3 days have been very scary as the fire that began only minutes away from Dilbeck's Corp Headquarters has grown into an unpredictable monster that will not be stopped any time soon. The plume from the ash and smoke was as high in the sky as the Mt. St. Helen's eruption. It is unbelievable.
Sadly, a number of my co-workers and clients are gravely affected and have had to evacuate. I have a client who's home I sold a mere 3 weeks ago and they moved to a lease in exactly the area of the first evacuations. Another client lives high up in La Crescenta in Briggs Terrace and her and her husband have no clue about the status of their home in the evacuation area because they just gave birth to a baby yesterday at the hospital!
A third client was on vacation in the desert and could not make it back so her parents made a 6 hour round trip to evacuate her two cats. My office manager and at least a dozen agents have been displaced by the fire. It is food for thought that in only 2 days we begin "National Emergency Preparedness Month" Not a moment too soon!

Musings from “Shadow”-Sue Eller’s Real Estate Companion.
I just posted this text in my blog on www.ellertheseller.com
The market in Glendale Calif is heating up. Spring is in the air and the market is picking up. I am amazed at how many buyers are out on open houses and not just for the lower end or REO types of properties: the following excerpt from my website blog is a case in point.
Written by "Shadow"-Sue's Real Estate assistant (a very smart Belgian Sheepdog, who is helping is mom in the RE Biz!)
Well, my mom, Sue Eller a Dilbeck Realtor, has been very busy as of late! Just last weekend we were out distributing open house invitations in the Rossmoyne area of Glendale, and here we are a week later, already in escrow with our new listing at 1512 Capistrano ave. in the Verdugo Woodlands! We had over 100 groups at our open house and they weren’t just coming for our fabulous lemonade!
The response from the open house attendees was all positive. The house was immaculate and tasteful and that is what it takes to get a home sold these days. My mom, Sue Eller, has an uncanny ability to prepare a home for sale to achieve the highest price in the shortest amount of time, even in this challenging market. The last 3 listings she has had, have sold in this fashion.
The great news for the seller is that we got multiple offers and are over our asking price. All in all, a very successful week! I encourage you to call sue if you are considering listing because her dogged determination and her willingness to “work like a dog” to get your home sold is a winning combination for all! Call her at (818) 668-4005 to see how she can help you or email us here!
It was one of those crystal clear blue sky white puffy cloud days that are so rare in Southern California. I had been diligently working all day at my computer trying to drum up real estate business when I decided to go out and enjoy one of Glendale and La Crescenta's best parks. I took my camera and my lunch and drove up to Deukmjian Wilderness Park.
This huge park has a historical stone barn that was built from 1914-1918 and is currently under a restoration adaptive resuse plan adopted by the city of Glendale. The site was aquired in 1898 by George Le Mesanger, a French Immigrant who was a wine grower and businessman. He raised grapes and made wine until prohibition. He resumed the wine business after that until a fire gutted the barn and swept through the area in 1933. The barn was then rebuilt and the upper floor was turned into residential quarters. They family lived there until 1960.
The property was purchased by a developer in 1968 who planned to build 250-350 homes on the site, but the city of Glendale obtained an option on the land in 1986. A park concept plan was developed in 1987 and the city bought the land for $5.2 million dollars. The site is 704 acres and is now a popular wilderness area and hiking site. In May 2004 Phase III was implemented and my husband Bob Yousefian, the Mayor of Glendale at the time, was on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with former Govenor Deukmjian who the park was named for.
As you will see by the photos, the park is a fabulous place to unwind and get away. When I was there, a young family was at the park flying a kite. The facilities are spotless and the park is unpopulated and undiscovered. I encourage you to take a walk in this park at your earliest convenience.
The address is 3429 Markridge Rd. in La Crescenta CA and park hours are 7 am til sunset. I hope you have found this useful and will take a break and visit this park. If you have any real estate questions please call me at (818) 668-4005 or email me at sue@ellertheseller.com. I am very familiar with the Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada area and would be happy to assist you! Take a look at the pictures below to see what a great place the park is!

As we begin the new year, it is time to take time to reflect on what to do for more balance in our lives. One way that might be beneficial is to take advantage of your neighborhood parks. In my neighborhood near my office at Dilbeck Realtors in La Canada, there are a number of parks that can give you a moment's peace on your lunch hour, or a place to walk your dog or play with your kids.
One such place is Descanso Gardens in La Canada-Flintridge. Today I took a walk there and had lunch. It was a beautiful winter day with very few people out so I had the picnic area all to myself. It was a great way to unwind, commune with nature, and get some exercise. I highly recommend this park to anyone who loves flowers. In the winter, their most popular area is the Camellia gardens. It is just amazing. There is a small entrance fee to visit the park, but the picnic area is free. While there, I ran into a business man eating his lunch, a grandma with toddler kids in tow, and a woman walking her golden retriever. All in all, a great way to spend a lunch hour. For more pictures, check out my uploads on the La Canada Localism photos section.
Learn more about Descanso Gardens here. Hours are from 9-5 every day exept Christmas and admission is $8 for non-members.
