One of the things that I love the most about Hollywood, Florida since relocating here from Chicago in 1990, is the abundance of year round outdoor activities.
There are events for people of all ages and interests!
Are you a car lover? The first Sunday of every month, Downtown Hollywood presents the Dream Car Classic, featuring dozens of pre ‘78 vintage cars on display along Hollywood Boulevard. This event will take place April 6th, May 4th and June 1st from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM and it's FREE!
They also feature live music and entertainment, arts and crafts for kids and face painting.
Please bring the whole family; you all are sure to have a great time!

Whether you're in the market to buy, or preparing to sell your home, or just wondering what your home is worth, you're sure to find information you can use!
Looking for an activity for the whole family, or maybe just a solo sojourn? The Global Groove, taking place at The Arts Park at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood in South Florida may be just the thing for you!
Saturday, April 5th from 4 to 10 PM, this free eco-diversity event features Multi-Cultural Music and Dance and Green fun. Children’s activities include a Trash to Treasure Recycled Art Project, a Kids’ Ecology Corps activity, an IGA fishing game, surfriders longboarding, and performances by Fantasy Theatre Factory, Gold Coast Theatre Magic and wildlife from Jungle Island. For adults, there is music and dance from around the globe, native costumes, and a concert in the amphitheatre at 8 PM.<!--break-->
With an emphasis on thinking green in these environmentally sensitive times, it is nice to know that the City of Hollywood is being forward thinking and incorporating activities and events that promote the well being of our home, the planet earth!
Looking forward to seeing you there.

There is no place like home! Last night I had the opportunity to go with my mother, daughter and a couple of girlfriends to see an unbelievable performance of Wicked at the beautiful Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, FL in Southeast Broward County.
I have always loved the theater, but the Broward Center, where we are season ticket holders, is such a spectacular venue to see any show that when you see a show of Wicked’s caliber it just takes your breath away.
From the valet service in front, to the opulent venue, to the show featuring magnificent costumes, choreography, song and a wicked tale, I was enthralled for the entire event.<!--break-->
The show featured two acts with a 15-minute intermission; as far as I was concerned it could have gone on forever. Katie Rose Clarke played Glinda and she was funny, vain, and goofy and had a bigger heart than she was even aware of with a voice that could make the angels cry.
Her counterpart, Carmen Cusack played the wicked witch Elphaba. How she was able to make the audience fall in love with a green wicked witch and nearly bring us to tears when Dorothy melted her with a pot of water was the testament to a truly gifted artist.
If you want to give yourself the gift of a truly spectacular evening, this is one you should not miss! The play runs from March 12 through April 6, 2008 and range in price from $50.50 to $153.50. For more information, visit www.browardcenter.org.

I had been looking forward to the Hollywood Florida 45th Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner held last Saturday, February 23, 2008 for a while now!
Being a woman who likes to be prepared for such events, I had everything planned out. I had the dress, the jewelry, a hair appointment , an appointment with a great makeup artist with MAC Cosmetics at Macy's in the Broward Mall, and an appointment for spray tanning, since my fear of skin cancer outweighs my willingness to tan naturally any more.
Friday, I started putting my plan into action. I went to a salon that shall remain nameless and got spray tanned. Although I looked a bit orange, the operator assured me that after showering the next day I would look fabulous.
The next morning arrived, and my son looked at me in horror and said " Mommy you are orange!" This was not music to a mother's ears. In all fairness, I have to say that only my feet and hands were (and are) orange ... which is why you will only see me in boots until I can again wear sandals without scaring small children!
I went on with my plan, having my makeup done, and shocking the wonderful but perplexed cosmetologist when I asked her to also put makeup on my legs and feet to help lessen the neon affect.
She did a fabulous job and I was able to go to the event without raising an eyebrow (or at least, anyone who noticed was kind enough to not shriek in horror as my son had done).
The event, as always, was fabulous. It was such fun to see everyone and to watch Hollywood 's citizens receive awards, watch new board members get sworn in and enjoy all of the evening's festivities. I was very proud to be a resident of such a great city, and so delighted that the event was once again held at the Hollywood Westin Diplomat at Hollywood Beach, a venue not to be missed.
It is now Wednesday night and my hands and feet are still orange (much to the dismay of both myself and my shocked manicurist). There is an old saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions; this may not be hell, but it sure is funny!
Anyone looking for a great hairdresser, makeup artist or manicurist, please give me a ring; and if you have someone who can do a spray tan without turning me into a pumpkin I would love to hear from you!

I'm very much looking forward to attending this event, which is being held in the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown Hollywood.
A festival of history and architecture will feature live music and entertainment, historical displays, walking and trolley tours, book signings, an antique and collectibles market, vintage car show, and children's activities.
I'm keenly aware of how fortunate we are to be able to attend wonderful outdoor events in South Florida, as the rest of the country hunkers down for the cold.
At no cost, this is a big day of fun in the sun for the entire family! You can learn more about this fantastic event at www.hollywoodgazette.com and get an overview of the event's highlights www.downtownhollywood.com/, where you can also obtain a schedule for the day.
