Boca Raton Veterinarians Calusa Veterinary Center and Me
As a pet owner and lover, I am always concerned, like anyone else, where to take my animals. After all, they're part of the family, like my kids. I worry, do the vets know what they're doing? Will they take good care of Buttons and Gracie? Treat them well? Play with them when they board?
After moving to Boca Raton 15 years ago and trying a few vets, I came upon Dr. Andy Turkell and Dr. Anthony Krawitz of Calusa Veterinary Center. At this time, I was mother to Coco, a special-needs papillon who I had rescued before we left NY, and Sandy a mixed breed.
Through the combined efforts of Drs Krawitz and Turkell and myself, Coco lived to be 13. An amazing feat to anyone who knew her! But I shared a special bond with Coco because I was her caretaker. She depended on me, not just for food and water, but for meds and for help and understanding each step of her journey. It was a journey I wouldn't have traded for gold. It was hard work, but the rewards were rich. It is due to Coco that I fell in love with the papillon breed and have made life-long friends in the world of papillons.
Time has passed. We've lost Sandy as well to the Rainbow Bridge. Never one to have an empty home, I missed those smiling faces, the barking at the door - you pet owners know what I mean. Along came Buttons and then Gracie. A full house once again and a full heart.
And always back to Calusa Veterinary and Drs. Turkell and Krawitz. They are wonderful vets practicing both regular and homeopathic medicine, and their facility is first rate. They have state-of-the-art equipment and are current on the latest updates in the field of veterinary medicine. I also board my dogs here, and they are kind enough to put up with my constant calls. Mothers are supposed to worry, right? That's our given right!
Why am I writing this blog? I am sitting here waiting for Gracie's test results, writing this on my Blackberry. She has been vomiting blood. I'm a wreck! Gracie weighs a whopping 5.9 lbs! My husband called to say Buttons is sitting at my front door and alternately barking and crying. Is it any wonder I'm a wreck?
Just got the results. They think Gracie has pancreatitis. Took a couple of hours, but am sure glad I have access to these great veterinarians. Now, I can be a nervous wreck until she gets better. Oh, the life of a mother...

Boca Raton Art Show Jan 2 & 3, 2010
The annual Boca Raton Art Show featuring juried artists will be held this Saturday and Sunday, January 2 & 3, 2010 at Royal Palm Place in Boca Raton.
The weather will be sunny and in the 60s. It's always a great day to walk around, see some great art, have a bite to eat and enjoy the fresh air.

Gated Communities Delray Beach Florida
Along Jog Road in Boca Raton and Delray Beach sit many gated communities. This stretch of road from Clint Moore Road to Linton Boulevard has been dubbed "Millionaires' Row." These gated communities in Boca Raton and Delray Beach are great family communities communities. They are NOT country clubs. There is NO mandatory equity in these communities.
Mizner's Preserve is a gated community of single family homes consisting of 3 to 5 bedrooms with 2800 square feet to over 5300 square feet. They range in price from $ 575,000 to $ 1,495.00 There is a clubhouse with pool, spa, tot lot, basketball, game room, tennis and fitness center.
Bristol Pointe is another of the gated communities along Jog Road. Also comprised of single family homes with 4 to 6 bedrooms ranging in size from 3200 square feet to just under 5000 square feet. Valencia Pointe is just one of many active adult communities that dot the landscape of Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth. There are even a few in Boca Raton. In March 2009, my husband and I began our search on the internet for houses in Florida.
We were living in Toronto and reviewed many listings via internet. As well, we spoke with several real estate agents on the phone. After speaking with many agents, my husband and I chose Elyse Berman. From the beginning I knew Elyse had the passion and drive to find us the perfect house.

Hi Elyse:
Joel and I along with our little Shih Tzu, Chanel, were in our new Villa, settling in for the past 3 weeks. I'm writing this to describe our home-buying experience for you to post for others to see. I'd want people to know that all along the way you were good natured, bent over backwards to help us, knowledgeable and foremost honest. It's rare for someone selling something to us to be honest.
We learned, after surfing the Internet and talking to people, most adult communities of South Florida don't allow pets. I did however, find a web site of a Real Estate agent that helped people find their "dream home" in a "pet friendly" community. I called the agent and you answered. I now realize how lucky we were to find you.
We first met you in July 2010 and you immediately got together a list of properties to show us in places that were "pet friendly." You spent a lot of time with us knowing we may not buy anything. By chance, we found an adult community in another county that was "pet friendly" and fell in love with their very large Clubhouse. This purchase failed as did a second attempt.
After the disappointments (and a lot of stress) we thought we'd try Delray Beach again and called you. You remembered us. We told you our tales of woe, and you immediately made appointments to show us some properties the next day. You are fast! One reason you're fast is because you know your business. You know which communities allow pets and you don't have to first search every community to find which ones did. We were very impressed with the properties you showed us. You were spot-on showing us what we were looking for!
We found a home, but it failed during negotiations. That's when you went into action again and immediately showed us other properties. This helped the terrible feeling of disappointment. You showed us another property we fell in love with. There was another offer that was accepted on the property, so we went home disappointed. We told you if the deal falls through to let us know. As luck would have it, the deal fell through, and the seller accepted our offer.
The 10-Day Inspection Period was very stressful for us since we were in NJ and were used to having an attorney write the contract and do everything. Here in Florida, the Real Estate agent fills in the blanks on a state form. We had little confidence in the Florida home-buying process. There were a lot of phone calls, texting, emails and faxing. You gave us every possible piece of information and names of professionals we can talk to to reassure us the Florida home-buying process can be trusted, and it works well.
You did a marketing analysis for us to show us what we were buying was a fair price. You gave us names and phone numbers of Attorneys, Insurance companies, Utility companies etc. letting us know what we needed to do. You kept on top of everything. We closed by phone, email, fax and Certified Overnight mail and wired the money. Again, this was very "foreign" to us. A week later, we opened the door to our new Villa and we were in love! Our little dog loved it too!
We would be very happy to do business with you again and recommend you to our friends and family.
