The Island is always trying to come up with viable affordable housing developments. Todays' Martha's Vineyard Times reports that the latest of these "Jenney Way" will go on the market shortly. In partnership with the Island Housing Trust (IHT), IAHF will sell the nine houses to households earning between 80 and 140 percent of the Dukes County median income (MI). Sale prices will range from $160,000 to $330,000. The houses were built by and island firm "South Mountain" they are the first houses certified by the U.S. Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) on the Vineyard. Four of the houses are equipped with solar electric systems and all were built to maximize energy savings. To read more click here
I have put together a variety of listings priced under $450K. This is considered the "starter" end of the market on the Island. Most of the homes we see in this price range are condos. There are some smaller single family homes also. We are seeing more quality offerings than ever before at this end of the market. As always there are quiet a few fixer uppers on the market, a good opportunity for those who are handy but not for the faint of heart.
