Over the weekend, my husband and I, along with our dog, Jake, traveled to Estes Park, CO for the Scottish Festival. When we arrived, it was raining so hard, we decided to stay in our car and tour Rocky Mountain National Park. We encountered rain, snow and some incredible wildlife!
After checking into the hotel, we decided to take a short walk around the lake in downtown Estes Park. Much to our surprise, as we rounded a corner on the foot path we saw....
This magnificent bull elk was watching over his herd of cows that were grazing on the adjoining golf course. Every time we got close, he would start bugling and spraying the territory, so we decided to retrace our steps back to the hotel. Just being this close to such incredible animals and being able to take some great photos was worth the trip!
I am so lucky to live so close to Belmar...a wonderful development featuring retail, multi-family homes, theatres, bowling alley, restaurants and incredible neighborhood events. This coming weekend will be the 6th Annual festival Italiano with unbelievable food, wine-tasting, vendors and entertainment. I especially enjoy the kidsl tent put on by Ballistrari Vineyards, where kids stomp the grapes for a special annual vintage!!!!
I especially have enjoyed the incredible sidewalk chart artworks by some very talented local artists. Here is an example:
The Festival is held at Belmar located at Wadsworth and Alameda in Lakewood. Festivities will be held both Saturday and Sunday, Sept 19 and 20th. Please attend!
I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2009 JCAR Inaugural Event held last night at Solterra in Lakewood, CO. What a beautriful site for a terrific event. At least 100 people attended the installation of new officers and board as well as the special awards to outstanding service by members of the Jefferson County Association of Realtors.
The evening was perfect with late day sunlight that highlighted the foothills and hogbacks to the west. Lovely background music was provided by Bill Hastings on his keyboard. The theme was Survive to Thrive and each guest received a colorful bandana to represent their team....
The evening provided a great opportunity for us to network and simply enjoy each other's company. Kudos to Cindy Goins of JCAR for all of her work in putting this together supported by Rita, JoAnne, and Susan of JCAR.
Kay Watson installed the officers and board of directors:
Our new Chair is Mike Welk of Your Castle Real Estate and the new Chair-Elect is Robin Lucy, also of Your Castle Real Estate.
Special Awards were given to
Kathy Capra Bowles - Realtor of the Year; Jim Erpelding and Merry Whyman - Chairman's Awards; and Melissa Walker, Heritate Title as Affiliate of the Year.
We, at JCAR, have a great leadership team and we look forward to 2010.

On August 24, I, along with Mike Henderson and others, will be making a presentation at the Jefferson County Board of Realtors on Transit Oriented Development in Denver.
Mike, Bill Spriggs and I are recent graduates of the Transit Alliance Citizen's Academy - a seven week in-depth course on FastTracks and Light Rail in Denver. Part of our commitment was to put together a plan on how we could help educate the public on TOD (transit-oriented development) and specifically, the impact in Denver.
We have some very knowledgeable people participating in this effort. We (Mike and I) will be focusing on the impact on property values along the transit stations along with photos of the new lines being developed.
For more information, please contact the Jefferson County Board of Realtors, 303-233-7831.
