I have been blessed with four, beautiful daughters...ranging in age from 12 to 21. (I know! You are probably wondering JUST how many shotguns my husband ACTUALLY needs to keep the boys away from our home. The answer he likes to give is..."AS MANY AS IT TAKES".)
YES, WE ARE BLESSED...blessed with lots of laughter...lots of excitement...lots of chatter...lots of laundry...lots of shoes all over the house...lots of drama...lots of little hair thingies...lots of arts & craft supplies...LOTS of "Mom, where's my (fill in the blank)...LOTS OF LOTS!
In fact, there is NOT a single day that goes by that I do not have at least three conversations about cleaning 'something'...putting 'something' away...or NOT leaving 'something' out. One day last week, shortly after my girls arrived home from school...I had a conversation with one of them that went something like this...
"Sweetheart, I was looking for 'something' in your bathroom today...but I could not find it."
"Ummmm...you were in my bathroom?"
"YES...I was in your bathroom...or at least that is where the bathroom was when we moved into the home. From ALL the clothes, it looked more like your closet."
"Yeah...well...I'm really busy at school right now. I don't have time to clean my bathroom. Wouldn't you rather I make good grades than have a clean bathroom?"
"IF you don't clean your bathroom, you are going to get lost in there and NOT make it to school one of these mornings! So...if you are sooooooooo busy that you cannot clean it during the week...you can stay home Saturday and take care of it."
By Friday afternoon, her bathroom was spotless! My little, motivational speech had worked!
Earlier this week, I showed a really nice home. Well...from the pictures (that were apparently taken when it was new)...it appeared to be a really nice home. It was difficult to tell from all of the clutter and 'stuff' piled up everywhere. There was sooooooooo much 'stuff', in fact, that all of the rooms looked exactly the same. ALL I, and my clients, could see was the home owners' 'stuff'. I cannot even tell you the color of the carpet, because there was not a single place on the floor that was not covered.
As you can imagine, my clients did not want to spend too much time in that home. So...we moved on to the next one...even though I felt strongly that the home was a good match for my clients. They just did not have the ability to see past ALL THAT 'STUFF'.
Later that evening, as I always do, I provided feedback for the homes we had seen that day. In my feedback to the listing agent, I mentioned that I felt that the home was a great match for my clients...but that they could not see past the 'stuff'...that they had moved on to another similar home. I politely suggested that she may want to have a conversation with the sellers to let them know that...if they were serious about selling their home...they may want to consider finding a new home for their 'stuff'.

In her email response to me, she said..."Thank you for showing my listing. I apologize that the home is a little messy ::LITTLE MESSY?? HAVE YOU ACTUALLY SEEN IT?:: My clients are very busy, professionals, and they just don't have time in their busy schedules for cleaning. ::THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR:: My clients are waiting for the RIGHT buyers to come along who have the vision to appreciate the home's value. I guess your clients just weren't the RIGHT buyers. GOOD LUCK!"
"GOOD LUCK!" to me? Are you kidding? Darling...GOOD LUCK to YOU and YOUR messy sellers! My buyers are under contract and ready to close. Your listing is STILL on the market.
Moral of the Story:
EVERY READY, WILLING and ABLE buyer is the RIGHT buyer!!!

Imagine for a moment...
Imagine yourself as one of the trillions of stars that light up the Eastern Sky...surrounded by billions and billions of other stars. Imagine...going out ‘on stage' night after night and shining as brightly as you possibly can...only to have your light lost in the blinding glare from the other stars. Imagine wondering if your little light matters to the world at all. Then imagine...one night...you are chosen to provide a guiding light to three wise men seeking a very, special, newborn child.
Forever the world is changed...because of you...BECAUSE YOU ARE.

Every human being feels like that little star from time to time...lost in a vast sea of faces and words. It is easy to believe that our voice and fragile life matter very little to this seemingly endless universe. Still...we humans are programmed with a profound need to leave a piece of ourselves...however small...when we are gone. I once heard someone say, "When a man nears the end of his life, he does not seek fortune or fame. He seeks significance."
What will I leave behind when I am gone? After all...that is the REAL QUESTION.
What will I leave of myself to show the next generation that I was here? What will I deposit into those people closest to me...my husband, my family and my children? What emotion will my memory evoke in those who know me? Will the world really be any different...any better...because I was born? Will you, the reader, remember this post? Can my words change the world?
Can one person...a solitary, ordinary life...really make a difference?

In 1963, Martin Luther King delivered a speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom declaring, "I have a dream!" Those four words have resonated through the generations to this day. No one can hear those words without remembering the man, Martin Luther King, and his passionate dream...a dream for which he was willing to die.
I also have a dream...
Almost exactly one year ago, I began my blogging journey on ActiveRain...without a clue as to where my journey would lead. Within weeks, I began to realize the impact of each of my posts...that the words I write will continue to 'speak' on my behalf...long after I am gone. In that moment of realization, I made a commitment to write words that evoke intense emotion...words that build up...words of encouragement...words of hope. I also made a decision to use this incredible platform I have been given to share my dream with the world...my dream of leaving a better world than the one into which I was born.
My DREAM...my PASSION...my REASON for being here on this earth...is to rescue sexually abused and
abandoned children and give them HOPE.
A year and a half ago, I met three children...ages 6, 8 and 10. These children had lost their father (in a work-related electrical accident) four years earlier and been abused and abandoned by their mother two years earlier. They were living with a relative who clearly resented their presence in her life. She often reminded them that they were a phone call away from being 'sent back' into the system.
The first moment I saw these three angels, I fell in love with them and wanted to bring them home with me. I wanted to give them the life they deserved...the childhood that had been stolen from them...the hope to believe in a brighter tomorrow. Although I wanted to be the one to change their lives...these three children forever changed mine. They reminded me that I am not here on this earth for myself...that the only way to gain my life is to give it away. They left their 'fingerprints' on my soul and pieces of their broken hearts in my heart.
In honor of these three children...and ALL of the 'broken' children who have found their way into my heart...I have a dream of building 'Durham's House of Hope'. Durham's House of Hope will be a beautiful home and school for 100 sexually abused, abandoned, discarded and 'broken' children...a loving, peaceful place where their little hearts can be protected and nurtured back to life.
As real estate professionals...we are blessed to make a living by helping people realize their dreams of home ownership. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the look on a new home owner's face...that first moment when they realize that the home REALLY is theirs. That moment is magical. Can you imagine THAT feeling...intensified a million times...when you see a child, who has been abused and thrown away, walk into their beautiful, new bedroom for the first time?
Can one person change the world? Sure...they can! However...a hundred people can do a thousand times more. Remember..."The whole is greater than the sum of its individual parts."

TOGETHER...WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD...ONE CHILD AT A TIIME!

Just last week, Miliken Institute released the results of a study naming Raleigh-Cary, NC the second 'Best Performing City' in the United States. Employment opportunity and sustainability were the primary factors for their determination of ranking. The chart below shows the top twenty-five cities in the U.S.A.

Of course, to those of us who live in the Cary, NC area...Miliken's report came as no surprise. Cary, NC is located primarily in Western Wake County (with a small portion in Chatham County) and is the second largest municipality in that county. The current population is somewhere around 122,000 people...making Cary, NC the largest town and seventh largest municipality in the state. According to recent reports, Cary is the fifth fastest growing city in the United States.
Originally called Bradford's Ordinary, the Cary, NC of today is made up of many smaller towns and communities that were annexed as Cary's population increased. Named for the first settler to the area in 1865, Carpenter, NC...a small community centered around the intersection of Carpenter-Upchurch Road and Morrisville-Carpenter Road...is now part of the Town of Cary.

If you blink while driving through Carpenter, NC...you'll likely miss the town altogether. The photo on the right shows the sign and flagpole that welcome each visitor to Carpenter, NC.

This photo shows one of two stores in Carpenter, NC. It is situated in the intersection of Carpenter-Upchurch and Morrisville-Carpenter Roads.
This store is still a thriving part of the community.

The photo on the right shows one of the original homes in Carpenter, NC. Surrounded by working farms and fields...this home is a reminder of the past.
From these photos, you may be tempted to believe that this little community is far away from the heart of Cary, NC. NOT TRUE. Over the past ten years, many of the area farms have been sold to building contractors and developed into residential neighborhoods.
Just a few miles down the road from Carpenter, NC, CARPENTER VILLAGE...a PUD (Planned Unit Development) with single family homes, townhomes, neighborhood shoppes, walking trails, a 22 acre lake, tennis courts, volleyball courts and playgrounds...is one of Cary's premier neighborhoods.
Welcome to Carpenter Village!

There are currently 9 townhomes available for sale in Carpenter Village...ranging in price from $159,500 to $285,000. (ALL units have private garages.)
The size of the homes range from 2 to 4 bedrooms and 1386 to 2385 square feet.

There are currently 16 single family homes for sale in Carpenter Village...ranging in price from $347,900 to $722,000.

Carpenter Village has a home style and floorplan to meet everyone's unique personality and needs. My personal favorite is the Charleston design that is quite typical of the homes in Carpenter Village.

The photo to the right shows a view of Carpenter Village from the front porch of a neighborhood home. This photo says "WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD"!

Just imagine sitting on your balcony and watching as the sun goes down over the 22 acre Carpenter Village Lake. WHAT A VIEW!
