Road Trip!

Road TripAfter writing my last blog post this morning, I found another article that I just have to share with you if you are thinking of taking a road trip with children!

The article is titled "Moms Like Me: Road Trip!" and I found it over at St. George Magazine. Jennifer Weaver reminds us of how much fun a good old fashioned road trip can be...when properly entertained. She provides some new twists on timelessly classic games that the children can play while you drive to keep them occupied and your focus on the road ahead! This is a must read for those planning any summer roadtrip vacations this year.

Natural beauty isn't lost on the St. George, Utah area...backways and byways.

I have just enjoyed reading a column that I would like to share with you. It is over at St. George Magazine, and it is written by Brian Passey, who took the photgraphs as well. Brian takes us along backways such as the Smithsonian Butte Scenic Backway, the Mojave Desert / Joshua Tree Scenic Backway, the Kolob Resevoir Road Scenic Backway, and the Gooseberry-Fremont Road Scenic Backway...all with gorgeous photos.

Brian also takes us along on his byway tour via State Route 18, U.S. Route 89, Old Hwy. 91, State Route 14, and State Route 12...again with exquisite photograpy.

Brian's descriptions make you feel like you're riding along with him...but should that be enough? NO! Why not get in your car and pack a picnic to enjoy one of these scenic routes today... We are so fortunate, living in the St. George, Utah area, to be surrounded by such natural beauty...but we shouldn't take it for granted. We need to find some way to enjoy it every day!

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - alive and well and living in St. George, Utah?

wild west in St. George UtahMost likely not...but this great article, written by Susan Spano for the Los Angeles Times, with its narrative qualities sure makes you feel like you are right there, back in history as Butch and his gang traveled through Utah's Red Canyon which was their home.

Susan specifically mentions St. George in her article as Butch's father was apparently sent by mormon church leaders to grow cotton here in Civil War time.

If you love old western style American history as much as I do, this article is a great read and there are some gorgeous red rock photos of our area in it as well.

The Old West lives on, click here to read Susan's whole article.

Proving that we are an active community...the Ironman is coming to St. George, Utah!

You've got a ways to wait, but on May 1, 2010, the Ford Ironman competition is coming to St. George, a community known for its active lifestyle.

This mega event will consist of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run and you can register online here.

This is a first time event and we are very excited to see it coming to our lovely community. I suggest you visit the website often to keep updated on the event if it is something that you are interested in. The athlete's guides won't be available online until April 2010; however, they are putting up to date information up often.
