It's no secret if you're friends with me on Facebook that I am addicted to any show in which someone tries on a wedding dress.
Today, as I was watching one of said "wedding dress shows" it hit me: buying a house for the first time is just like buying a wedding dress!
Shut the front door, you say! Alright, ok, so I've had a couple of glasses of wine. Just stick with me here. It really does make sense!
You try on 1, 2, or 50 before finding the one. Insert similarities to finding your husband/wife here too. You know what mom says: you buy the bull...
You know what style you like. A-line or ranch. Ballgown or colonial. Condo or cocktail. Lace or traditional. Mermaid or contemporary...You get the point.
You stick to a budget or realize that what you want might take some compromise. Yes it is possible to get what you want for the price you want to pay but if you have expensive taste and a foreclosure budget, somethings gotta give!
It fits perfectly the first time or might take some adjustment depending on the outcome of the home inspection, or um, fitting. When the foundation is right all cosmetic defects are a relatively easy fix.
So according to these "wedding dress shows" what makes a bridal gown search (um home search) easier? A professional who knows what they're doing!!
You need a Randy who knows all the current styles (or market trends) and is not a afraid to tell you to listen to your heart but pay attention to your budget.
You need a Monty who will "jack you up" or help you to visualize what your dress (I mean house) will look like once all is said and done and you're walking down the aisle (or to closing).
In the real world we all know Randy and Monty can't be everywhere all the time so who can you turn to next? Someone who knows the dress (I mean home) market in your areas. Who realizes that you have to try on a bunch of houses or sometimes just one house, to find the right one. Who can help you navigate the world of dress buying (I mean first time home buying) and help you visualize your dream.

I was not feeling that good old holiday cheer and thought some snow would help. I should'nt have said that because the Law of Attraction was listening and sent a blizzard to New England the day after Christmas. We got a foot of snow here in Bellingham, MA.
Not to be outdone the Law of Attraction has now conspired with Mother Nature and we are in the midst of a second Blizzard of the season. Total so far? 15 inches and still falling.
3 hours later: 
Thank God for condo living! We won't be breaking out backs trying to shovel out of this mess.
