For teenagers who have set roots in their neighborhoods and local schools having to relocate can seem like the end of the world for your child, children and teenager. Let's face it moving is not easy for anyone but for a teenager it could feel like the end of the world and their life is over. Here are a few tips to help your teenager get through moving or relocating to a new area.
If you make the decision to relocate while your teenager is still attending school, it would probably be accepted a little better if you told them immediately and not wait until the moving truck is pulling into of the driveway. Not only will it benefit your teenager to allow it to start sinking in their head but it will give them time to say their good byes and spend the time left with their friends locally. It really gives your teenager a chance to prepare not only physically but mentally too!
Your teenager may not take moving well and will probably have you questioning the decision of relocating due to the reaction your child may have. Its wise to listen to your child's concerns and remember this is very normal as they feel they will be pulled away from people that they love and fear that they will have difficulty in the new city and state. Although teenagers seem to change rapidly they sometimes do not handle change to well. Its very important to allow your teenager to show and express their true feelings and be sure to be there and reaffirm that you will help them through this transition.
Share and talk about all the benefits of relocating for your teenager, forget the new job or the benefit for the family. Its a tough transition for anyone but especially for teenagers and children. Let's talk what's in it for the teenager and how to make this new chapter in their lives a little easier to take. Believe me that's how teens think, as they also think their life is over when a variety of events take place in their young lives. That means to ease your child's mind and do a little homework. Today teenagers can do their own research just by using google, the best thing to do is remind them of all the things they love to do today, they can still do it anywhere just got to find out how and where they can do them in their new location.
Teenagers seem to accept things when they play an active role and feel in control. Its might take some time for the move to grow on them. To help get their minds on the negative have them help you pack, track down a moving company or help you hold a garage sale. Maybe throw a bbq or going away party and host it together. Your teenager will probably feel better if they felt they were not in it alone. It could help you build a stronger bond and make the move a little bit easier.
Facebook and text messaging keeps everyone connected these days. Teenagers are no exception and many seem to only connect in this way today. Encourage your teenager to stay connected and remind them even though you are moving, their friends could remain in their life long enough to become life long friends. With video, pictures and social networks friendships can last a life time.

Florida Hospital does it again with the new Cancer Institute. The public may tour the new facility on Tuesday from 5 p.m to 7 @224 Memorial Medical Parkway.
Additional equipment and personnel will give the patients care under one roof which is important for anyone dealing with cancer.
Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center is right across the Cancer Institute and have also added two more oncologists to their staff. This is a big benefit for residents who need cancer treatment. Now residents do not have to travel to Orlando or Tampa for treatment. Its right in our backyard! Another reason why I enjoy living, working and playing in the Greater Daytona Beach area.

Yes I said it and with good reason, if you read online publications or watch the news you will witness more than your fair share of sob stories and news that impacts the world. People seem to complain more than usual rather than do something that would impact in a positive way. My hubby Tom does not want to be part of the problem rather he is a truth seeker and gets involved every chance he gets. He rather not complain but make a difference!
Recently Tom Blawn has shared his insight with local government, after all it starts local right? Unemployment 12% in Volusia County, his thoughts bring a wide variety of corporate headquarters to Daytona Beach. We need commerce and high paying jobs, the 12% reflects approximately 20,000 people who are unemployed. People would love to work but there is not enough jobs to support these people.

If you know my hubby, he has to do his part. Tom heads the Daytona Beach Economic Development Board and Volusia Civic Pride.
Thomas Blawn owns Exit Beach Realty in Ormond-by-the-Sea and serves on the Halifax Area Advertising Authority. Tom Blawn is active in many ways.
He's a busy guy but a guy who is trying to help fix issues that deeply impact our residents, our business and Daytona Beach growth.
Tom recently wrote a guest opinion editorial for the Daytona Beach News Journal and I think he is on to something!
"Recruiting a business to a particular area has to be at least as competitive as recruiting a star quarterback or point guard to a college athletic program. The recruited have so many options. The recruiters better have a lot to offer or they will lose the competition."
"Folks, that is what has been happening in Florida and in our local communities for a long time. We just don't have the incentives to induce companies to come or stay here that other communities have put in place. I have a recent example for you. A small startup company called Embark Health wanted to place its company headquarters in Daytona Beach, which would eventually mean 130 above-average paying jobs if all went well." You can read the full story here.
So rather than complain, help your community and help your business, make a difference and get involved! Some may view as biased...nah...just proud! What are you doing to make your area a better place to live, work and play?
