Most Underrated Steak in Dallas - The Cock & Bull in Lakewood

Hehe, I said "bull".

Located in Lakewood (East Dallas) on Gaston just west of Abrams, this little hole-in-the-wall pub (and I say that with the utmost affection) is truly a book different than it's cover. It's smokey, very dark, and serves it's beer very English-style (warmer than in America). But where the magic happens is in the kitchen, where the former chef from Jeroboam now hangs his/her hat.

The hummus is pretty darn good - get an appetizer because the food takes awhile - but wait until you view and taste the beef tenderloin. OH MY FREAKIN' GOODNESS!! I'll hold it next to Bob's Steak and Chop house any day! Served on a bed of whipped potatoes with perfectly cooked asparagus, it literally falls apart in your mouth. I believe it costs $22 - a bargain in this overpriced town - and is worth every penny.

They were out of the tenderloin one evening and my girlfriend and I sampled the sea bass, which was increcible as well. The sauce was absolutely perfect, as was the fish.

If you're ever in the market for an English beer and a steak that will send you into a meat-coma, go to the Cock & Bull in Lakewood, East Dallas' best kept secret!!

Blue October (not the band), market hysteria, and who's to blame

On this beautiful fall day I have a hard time following the national media and their insistence that Judgment Day is at hand. The sky is clear, the sun is shining, and anyone with good credit and a little money can still get a home loan. Credit lines tighter, no doubt, but we are finally seeing a return to real world, brick-and-mortar lending. The formula for brick-and-mortar lending is pretty simple:

Good payment history (decent credit) + money down (3.5% FHA, 5% conventional) = HOMEOWNERSHIP.

Who is to blame for this mess?? Everyone, from Republicans to Democrats to Wall Street to Main Street. Washington passed the laws, banks gave out the money, and we took it. We were qualified for enormous loans and jumped at them, our only limits being the ridiculous. When we couldn't afford our dream homes, we got adjustable rate loans, not thinking about how we were going to pay for them in 5 years. We even lied on our stated income loan applications, saying we made twice as much money as we actually did.

What America needs is common sense, and neither political party has a lick of it. We as citizens must take responsibility for our own situations. Just because we qualify for that $400,000 house doesn't mean we need to take it!! We've been drunk on borrowed money and now the bar is closed. Let's take two Tylenol of responsibility and face the hangover.

This is truly the financial challenge of our generation. Baby boomers and Gen X'ers have seen nothing like this, but we will get through it. We will persevere and be better from it.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;
the most massive characters are seared with scars.

Market volume, predictably, has fallen a bit. Property value throughout Dallas count has dropped approximately 2.5%, but keep in mind the mind boggling number of foreclosures and short-sales in our market. Normal houses are doing just fine; people are still looking for homes that are nice and well priced.

My First Blog!!!

Hey everyone! I'm finally taking the plunge into the wonderful world of blogging. First of all, who termed the word "blog"? It's really weird and brings up some strange images. Say it really slowly with a low voice.

Okay, I'm easily distracted but am back on the task at hand and feel good about myself and my ability to blog. Never mind the cute little Pomeranian running through my office, trying to distract me from blogging. It only weighs about 3 pounds but looks like a bowling ball with hair. Crap! Distracted again!!

I guess this is enough for a first blog and to get the creative juices flowing. I like juice, particularily orange juice. Mmmmmm orange juice.
