I Thought Money Was Money - No Matter How You Look At It

Funny story...

I thought money was money!I went to the BP gas station off Hwy 40 in St. Marys GA tonight and wanted to pay with quarters that I had gathered from our garage sale last weekend. The bill was $9.36. When I started putting my sets of 4 quarters down, I was told that they would NOT accept over $5 in quarters. WHAT???????

I smiled and sweet talked even though I could have just used my debit card. That wasn't the point. I should be able to pay in change no matter what the bill amount is.

Now I could see if I tried to pay with 900 pennies (tee hee), but it was quarters.

How ridiculous are vendors that they can actually be "picky" when it comes to someone wanting to pay in change???

I should've just walked.

Anybody else run into this before?

National BBQ Festival - 2010 Smokin' IX...in the Swamp, Waycross GA

I need to begin by saying I AM NOT A BAKER!!!

National BBQ FestivalMy husband and our youngest son went to a BBQ festival this weekend and had me bake one of my apple pies so they could enter it in the apple pie category at the BBQ festival...I got 4th place out of 200 apple pie entries!!!!!

And guess what the whopping prize is for first place? $100 - yes, you read that right...one hundred dollars!!!!!!! Yet the BBQ categories can get up to like $10,000!!! Now how's that fair? tee hee!!!

They only announced the top 10 in any category, so when they got to 5 on the apple pie Wayne really didn't think they'd hear our name, but sure enough....#4!!!! Our son was so excited to get to go up on stage!!

It was the 2010 SMOKIN' IX...in the Swamp - PIE COMPETITION
sponsored by the National BBQ Festival...in Waycross, GA, but they travel all over and Wayne said if I could've seen the magnitude of all the BBQ entries and pie entries, and 3/4 of the entries were from restaurants, of which a lot of them too were part of the BBQ contest.

And people know people in these things, so obviously had never seen my husband and son before, and my husband explained this was our first time yada yada yada...

This was the first time they've ever had a "first timer" entry win in the top 10 right outta the box!!

So if I ever lose the ability to design or type on the computer, I know I can start "hittin'" the BBQ festivals!!! TEE HEEEEEEEE!!!

Absolutely Priceless Response to Air Conditioner Thief!!!!!

The members of the Normandy Park Baptist Church want everyone to know how they feel about the person who stole three of their air conditioning units. All you have to do is read their sign.

When Are The Banks Going To Take Responsibility For Their Homes Sitting Out There Needing Repairs?

Saint Marys, GA - When we moved into our neighborhood 2 years ago, there was a home on the corner for sale...and it's still sitting there. Come to find out from another neighbor that this home is a bank owned home and there is something wrong with the air conditioning and probably other things, however, the home is being sold with a home warranty (the sign for the warranty is usually down in the grass by the for sale sign though), but I guess the home warranty won't cover the air conditioner replacement??? So at what point should the bank be responsible for fixing what needs to be fixed in order for the home to sell? I'm not saying they have to fix "everything."

I know our HOA has been involved and sent notices for lawn maintenance among other things. Meanwhile, it just sits bringing down the value of our neighborhood. Unfortunately, it's the first home seen when you come into this great little cul-de-sac neighborhood of 12 homes.

Don't the banks care if they sell? And if any other seller would be responsible for issues that arise during an inspection in order to sell their home, why shouldn't the banks be responsible? Selling a home "As-Is" is one thing, however, not selling at all would mean changes or fixes need to be made in order to sell. So you'd think the bank would be willing to do "some" things in order to just get the home off the market.

I realize the homeowners have put the banks in this position for whatever reason...whether it be a loan that was so outrageous (ARM's) or loss of a job or the homeowner just left the home...but the bank owns that home now...and I guess the home will sit and sit and sit until it's so dilapidated that it permanently damages home prices in our neighborhood. But it can't just be our neighborhood where this is happening!

My heart goes out to those other homeowners where their neighborhood is going down the drain because of these dilapidated homes that the banks won't take responsibility for.
