Hiding the after-effects of financial crisis

Today I think that nobody will deny that financial crisis impacted almost every industry of the world economy. But in the real estate industry it did the greatest harm as we can see. It has eliminated the stability and people’s beliefs in that stability that was usually associated with the real estate industry.

I have analyzed the situation during the last moth and came to an interesting conclusion. Ordinary people are still looking for that stability. They started to evaluate companies from that point of view. One of my clients said that he spends time and counts the number of ads printed in the newspaper from the local RE companies. He believes that if company decreases it’s advertising budget this means that company is loosing it’s positions… And visa verse, if a company continues to publish the same number of ads it speaks in its favor.

To go forth I have heard almost the same regarding the office decoration and even the clothes of the personnel. People start to pay attention to the cost of clothes of their realtor… Many of them believe that if realtor wears the same shirt and jacket it means that his financial position is really poor… And they start to look for another agent. Is it fair? Of course, no! But what can we do with people’s beliefs…

We can and have to hide the after-effects of financial crisis. We may do a lot of easy and cost-effective things – paint the walls in the office (they will look fresh) and buy some new designer clothing with discounts. It’s easy to find some really good fashionable shirts and pants from the 2008 collection online. By the way, my favorite is foreverfashion.com

Neighborhood Event Finder

If you've ever felt trapped in your career, there is a good chance that you have considered relocation. The thought of a new city and a fresh start feels like just the thing to jumpstart your stalled professional life.

When searching for a home in a new area, you'll research the schools, analyze the taxes and crunch those crime rate numbers. But an often overlooked point of research is the "culture" of the neighborhood. From sporting events to street fairs, performing arts to comedy clubs, identifying these events will not only ensure entertainment for the entire family, but they can also reveal hidden traits such as traffic volume and socio-economic hints. It’s a snapshot into who is living in a town and who is potentially conducting business there.

A great tool to learn about local events in your current or soon-to-be neighborhood is Fizber's online event tool. The for-sale-by-owner Website has put together an impressive Google map mashup that displays regional events specific to the street address, city or zip code that you enter.

Icons are overlaid on a map, identifying festivals, sports, music events and more. A handy side column allows you to filter out options for fewer results.

Clicking an icon on the map will reveal more details. You may also scroll below the map for a full listing of events divided by category. Clicking on an item on the list will reveal even more details such as start time and venue information if available. The list is particularly handy if your area is densely populated with tons of events.

Find out what's happening tonight, a few months down the road, or just get an idea of what's available in neighborhoods you might be considering moving to.

When searching for properties on Fizber's Website (over 2 million listed!), just click "Events" on the upper navigation bar to populate events, giving you greater insight into the neighborhood where the house is located.

Being surrounded by events will not only tip you off to the types of organizations affiliated in a given area, but can also point to economic insulation and overall popularity, two areas that are important to consider when you go to sell your home.

Is boat better than house?

Today while searching the Net I've found an extremely interesting post. the author compares the costs of buying a boat and living on a boat with a traditional living in a house. Here are some quotes:

Now let me say this before you say it, because I know you are thinking it … yes, the boat is much smaller than a house. I know it, believe me I know it! However, my backyard is bigger than yours I likely have a better view, and if I don’t like my neighbours, I just move. Can you say that? There are trade offs - some people may not be willing to live in a smaller place to be able to live more cheaply and to have more freedom. For us, the trade off is more than worth it. I’ve commented on Living on a Boat vs A House before.

Other Living Costs

  • No Hydro bill.
  • No Water bill.
  • No gas bill (although you will have to fill the propane tank a couple of times a season.)
  • No land tax.
  • No cable bill.
  • No phone bill - no land line, so you will likely need a cell phone.
  • If you live on a sailboat, your fuel bill will be very low. As it is, our boat is a house first - and a boat second, so we don’t use much fuel either. Of course, that means we don’t go far.

The author believes that boat is better than home. And it's not only because of costs. It's more healthy and exiting. Do you think that many people will think over moving to live on a boat?
