Pinellas Folk Festival This Weekend

The Pinellas County Folk Festival will take place this weekend at Heritage Village in Largo! This is always a great festival! There are a variety of folk performances with musicians playing everything from the mandolin and fiddle to the guitar. There is even music performed on a washboard! Talk about folk music!!! Amateur musicians are invited to bring their own instruments and perform along with the groups planned for the show.

Naturally now folk festival would be complete without craft demonstrations and plenty of food and drink! You can watch blacksmithing demonstrations as well as pine needle weaving! There will be storytelling for the youngsters!

Magnet Program Coming to Tarpon Springs High School ?

Is a new magnet program coming to Tarpon Springs High? It sure looks that way! The Leadership Conservatory for the Arts at Tarpon Springs High School may very well become the 16th countywide magnet school! The proposed program would be phased in over a four year period, beginning with the next school year's freshman class. These students would take an 18 week course in leadership prior to choosing an area of focus in the arts.

This program would not be the same as the program already in place at Gibbs High in St Petersburg, since it would highlight management skills (such as becoming the orchestra conductor, the fine arts curator or some such position).

This is another plus for students in our Pinellas County public schools and something parents need to be aware of. Pinellas County public schools are among the best in the state!

If you are considering moving to the Pinellas area, be sure to give me a call today! Together with my partner, Bill, I would love to assist you in purchasing that dream home in our lovely community! 727-512-0910

Dunedin May Start Producing Alternative Fuel

The city of Dunedin is researching the alternative to building a new biosolid treatment plant that would be less expensive and beneficial for both the city coffers and the environment. The city recently applied for a $2.6 million grant to test a space age technology. This new technology would transform the biosolid sludge into an alternative fuel.

The city would have to match the grant with $100,000. of it's own funds in order to have the biosolid treatment system called Plasma Arc Flow built. The system would be built by a Tarpon Springs firm called MagneGas Corporation. The system would be ready to begin operation in September 2010 and would run for 12 to 15 months and then go through a period of evaluation.

More and more communities are getting on the eco band-wagon and I am pleased to see that our own city of Dunedin is right in front!
