Mama Osprey Guards Her Nest In The Over Stirling Links - Dunedin Florida
While at Stirling Links driving range with Ronnie this week, I noticed mama osprey busy working on her nest and since she spent a good amount of time sitting in it as well, I am going to guess that there just might be a baby or two on the way.
Stirling Links driving range was formerly called St Andrew's Links, located on Palm Avenue and Alternate 19, just a couple of blocks away from St Joseph's Sound and the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Stirling Links also has a par 3 course that Ron plays with the guys. Since I don't play golf, I go with him to the driving range when I have time. With camera in hand and an audiobook on my iPhone, I enjoy the time out in the Florida sun!
It has been back up in the 80's down here this week, so I was out soaking up those rays and getting my Vitamin D when I noticed the osprey high above the palm trees, on one of the manmade platforms that were built specifically for osprey nesting.
The City of Dunedin Florida maintains Stirling Links and is also responsible for building those osprey platforms........just one more thing that is RIGHT with life in Dunedin Florida!
Dunedin Florida - Recycling Center on Michigan Avenue, just west of the Dunedin Fine Arts Center
While many communities offer curbside recycling pickup, not everyone has that service and for those who don't, the City of Dunedin offers a great recycling center on Michigan Avenue, between the Dunedin Fine Arts Center and Alt 19.
The only thing that this recycling center does not take (and I can't find any general recycling center around that takes it) is COLORED GLASS. They take clear glass but not green or brown.......which I really don't understand since when I lived in Germany back in the 1970's and 1980's they were collecting the colored glass. Why not here???? If anybody has an answer, I would love to hear it! I do know that curbside recycling takes colored glass, so I REALLY don't get this one at all!
As the sign to the left indicates, the Recycling Center is in the same area as the Nature Center, Little League Area, City Tennis Courts, Highlander Pool and Kiddie Splash Area and the Fire Department. Easy to find and convenient for everyone!
Dunedin Florida offers so much to the community and Highlander Park is a much visited destination.

Crystal Beach Florida is a great place to live here in the Sunshine State. There is always something going on in our little community on the Gulf Coast!
Crystal Beach Florida Post Office Collects Care Packages To Local Soldiers In Afghanistan....yes, our local town post office is busy collecting items to send overseas to local soldiers that are so far from home.
Pam Hurlburt, our postmistress, found out that we have some local Crystal Beach residents that are currently serving in Afghanistan so she decided to do something positive for them. Pam and long time Crystal Beach postal employee Jo Pichardat are collecting and sending items to our soldiers!
As far as what to send, basically anything to help them stay warm and pass the time when they are 'off' duty. Books and board games are appreciated as are socks and foot care items. Those who want to donate cash to help pay shipping costs can donate that.
If you know of other local soldiers serving in the Middle East, please stop by the Crystal Beach post office and let either Pam or Jo have that soldier's information so they are included in the list of recipients.
That is just one more example of what a great community Crystal Beach Florida is!
Crystal Beach Florida - Market Report for January 2012 shows increased activity, which is a good thing!

While only a single home sold in our little community that has no condos at all, there are 5 single family homes that are under contract and waiting for the keys to be transferred at the closing table!
That one single family home was a small bungalow - a 2 bedroom 1 bath short sale that was listed for 75k and closed after 122 days on the market for 71k.
As for those 5 homes that are pending, they break down as follows:
$2,499,000 for a waterfront 5 bedroom, 5 full bathroom and 2 half bathroom home with 7293 sq ft of living space - this is one of my favorite homes here in Crystal Beach and in the above photo!
$575,000 for another waterfront home - this one with 3069 sq ft
$399,000 for 2659 sq ft of waterfront living
$319,000 for 2250 sq ft two blocks from the Gulf of Mexico
$225,000 for 3018 sq ft of waterfront living
It will be interesting to see next month what these 5 homes actually sold for! Watch for updates in February's Market Report!
