Helen Ga Real Estate "Watching the Rain"

Update on Helen Ga weather is Rain! Already saturated, the rain is soaking in northeast Georgia and swelling the rivers, creeks and streams. Again, as you all know, caution in driving is urged. Even though you can see the road under the water, if there is water covering the top of the road, don't try to cross. Better to turn around and go back, lose a little time and be safe. What will all this rain do to the prospect of a colorful fall? We really don't know right now. It can make for a beautiful color, if it does not knock all the leaves off the trees too early. But I have lived here 20 years an have not seen an ugly fall yet! Best to plan to come more than once and see the color. Drive through Cleveland, Helen, Sautee, Hwy 197 toward Clarkesville, Batesville, Lake Burton, Clayton, back down through Clarkesville! You will have a wonderful day trip or two and see some gorgeous sites. If you would love to live here, we can arrange that too, just give me a call and let's talk! Enjoy!

Helen Ga Real Estate "Media Insensitivity to GA Floods"

Helen Georgia is less than 45 miles away from the devestating floods in Atlanta, we have local flooding i three counties. Our local media are reporting the tragic results, ten deaths due to the floods. But this morning I witnessed a media insensitivy that can not be ignored. ABC's Goodmorning America not only reported on the death of a mother of two returning home from her night shift job, but they actually aired the 911 tape with the frantic woman's voice and last words on it. Is this responsible journalism? I ask you to decide, I already have.

Helen Ga Real Estate "Beware the Rain"

Helen, Ga is experiencing the most rain our area has had in quite some time. Trees are the main concern now along with some area flooding. Be careful when you drive over any amount of water. The current is much stronger than it appears. Our area has many small creeks, and some rivers with bridges over them. My road has a couple of lakes which pass under the low bridge and road. Now is the time to be very careful here, if there is water over the bridge Do NOT cross! Turn around and go back the way you came. If you can't get home without crossing water, do not go home. Many in the Atlanta area did get home in flooded areas, now they can't get out. Listen to the local radio stations while you are traveling in possible flood areas. Yes, the local radio stations have much information available. Pay attention to the warnings.

We have been in a drought situation for a year or so, so these rains are wonderful, except, once the ground is saturated and we have some wind you may experience falling trees. The roots closer to the surface may have died or been weakened and the deeper roots not strong enough, so the tree topples. If a tree is blocking the road, beware of possible fallen power lines also.

Rural areas sometimes have fallen trees and power lines which have not been reported yet. If you see things like this, be sure to stay in your car, turn around and then report the situation. If you travel at night, be very cautious. Slow down, it might save your life, and it will definitely save you time in the long run.

Hopefully the rain is subsiding, but there are many local schools which are not in session due to damage caused by the rains. Be careful when you see children about the road side. Parents, do not allow children to wade of play in the water, it is indeed dirty and contaminated. Don't leave children outside or at home unsupervised. A word to the wise!

More later on our situation in northeast Georgia.

Helen Ga Real Estate "It's a Rainy Day in Helen"

I promised some updates to the fall season in Helen. Actually Fall begins tomorrow, but here is my first update. RAIN, Rain and more rain!! Good news for those to the south of us who are needing water, the Chattahoochee River is rolling quickly through our northeast Georgia areas headed for Lake Lanier and points south. We have been watching the rain for a week now, and if rain helps with fall color, we are in for a beautiful fall. What is good about looking at property and homes in the rain? LOTS..you can see any possible leaks in basements, erosion and road conditions. Running in and out of the rain looking at houses is not the most fun you will ever have, but it has its benefits. So, don't wait, if you are considering looking at homes in northeast Georgia, come on! The river in Helen will be great for tubing, the lake at Lake Burton will be ready for boats and we have places with shelter to keep you dry! Don't let the rain keep you away, Helen is always a great place to visit and relocate! Don't forget, your way out of Atlanta and other big cities!! See you soon.
