HOW LOW CAN LOWES GO?

Free Delivery doesn't REALLY mean Free Delivery, does it? In October we moved into our new home and purchased a new washer and dryer (Whirlpool/Cabrio) from our local Lowes' store. The purchase price hovered around $1700 but there was that promise of FREE DELIVERY. At the cash register, though, was surprised to see an extra charge of $79 for delivery.

The explanation: fill out this form, with this receipt, with this UPC code and send it to this address in this time frame. Whew!

So, not wanting to make a stir and being SO excited about my new Whirlpool/Cabrio, I paid the additional $79. When I got home, I immediately filled out all of the forms with the proper receipts and sent them in a timely manner to the designated address.

Simple enough, heh? You would think so. Four weeks later, I received a gift card from Lowes for $59. Puzzled, I went back to my paperwork, found the receipts, found the UPS codes and the address and phone numbers. The young man on the phone politely explained that the Rebate Center had not had the chance yet to update their computer system to reflect the higher delivery cost and that upon my request I would receive the additional $20 in about 4 weeks.

So for free delivery, I had to send in the perfect rebate forms to the perfect address and then follow up

to make sure that the perfect information was perfectly inputted in the out of date computers.

Lowe's enjoys an excellent reputation but I felt a tad "duped." A major corporation charging "delivery fees" for free delivery and then failing to update their computer systems is either lazy or blatantly dishonest. Just thought you should know. Be sure to check the fine print!

Fort Wayne, Indiana homes

The Northeast Indiana Market Report MAY 1, 2008

fort wayne skylineThere is good news on the horizon for the Northeast Indiana real estate market.

The homes currently pending to close are now at the 2006 level -- and slightly above the 2007 level.

The inventory units currently for sale are slightly higher (2900 vs. 2700) than last year. The average days that a Fort Wayne home is currently on the market is 120 days (4 months.) The average price is 97K.

Best news, though, is that the interest rates are at 5.875%. And there ARE buyers out there.

The greater Fort Wayne area is a great place to live and work.
