Montgomery County Leadership Retreat

I recently returned from the Leadership Montgomery County retreat. Our original date was for the weekend that IKE came in so we rescheduled for last week. What an awesome group of people! It was so fun meeting and getting to know our classmates for 2009! There was so much energy and enthusiasm in the group! The class of 2009 is a group of 32 professionals from various types of business from all over Montgomery County. We will work together for a year with our ultimate goal being a class project that will benefit all of Montgomery County.

During the retreat we participated in a variety of activities including the ropes course which I thought to be the most fun. The tight rope was the most challenging by far for me especially since our group volunteered me to go out first to secure the life line for the team. The pressure was on but I made it with the encouragement from my awesome team! Our entire team through coaching one another on, encouragement and great ideas - all made it across successfully!

At the end of our retreat we brainstormed and narrowed down several ideas that are really good. We will present the ideas at our next LMC meeting and vote on one project. Whatever it will be, I know that it will be a wonderful thing for our community! Can't wait to see what it will be.

For those of you wondering what Leadership Montgomery County is, here is the information taken from the website:

Leadership Montgomery County, Texas (LMC) is a tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, dedicated to developing and enhancing current and future leaders of Montgomery County.

LMC was founded in 1987 by the Conroe Chamber of Commerce and merged with the South Montgomery Woodlands Chamber of Commerce in 1995. The program provides a process to better prepare the next generation of leaders in Montgomery County. The Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Community Chamber of East Montgomery County now hold board positions and are a part of LMC implementation.

The mission of LMC strives to develop and promote the present/future leadership for Montgomery County, Texas by enhancing current business and community leaders while identifying and developing emerging leaders.

The goal of the program is to educate and inform candidates about major community issues, while inspiring and motivating individuals to exercise their leadership skills to benefit the community.

I'll keep you posted on our goings on this year!

Spotlight on Conroe's Performing Arts

Any community that has a performing arts segment is a very fortunate place. Conroe has an exceptional group of performing arts organizations:

  • Conroe Symphony Orchestra
  • Creighton Players
  • Friends of Conroe
  • Montgomery County Choral Society
  • Montgomery County Performing Arts

The Creighton Players were established in 1967 and are funded in part by the Conroe Commission on Arts and Culture. While celebrating their 41st season as the premiere arts and entertainment organization in Montgomery County, the Creighton Players are preparing to move to their new home; the Owen Theatre, located in Downtown Conroe.

A little history on the Owen Theatre: the building was constructed as the Weisinger Pontiac/GMC dealership in 1948 and completed in 1949. At the time the population of Conroe was about 5,000 (hard to imagine). The building has served as White's Home and Auto Store, a Firestone Store and county election headquarters. The Owen Theatre is a state of the art facility, with everything being first class. It is an arena type theatre that will seat 250.

The Creighton Players schedule for the 2008-2009 is as follows:

  • Wait Until Dark Oct. 17 - Nov. 9
  • Scrooge! Nov. 21 - Dec. 14
  • Steel Magnolias Jan. 16 - Feb. 8
  • The Crucible Feb. 27 - March 22
  • Annie Get Your Gun May 15 - June 7
  • Noises Off July 3 - 26

Take some time out and enjoy the show!!!

Local Restaurant Spotlight

For this week's restaurant spotlight, we chose Debby's Prime Steakhouse in Montgomery. The steakhouse is just down the road from our office, and is a favorite lunch spot for our team. The environment is always casual for a relatively formal steakhouse, and the food is outstanding. It would be nice to help our local economy by patronizing local businesses to help bolster them during these crazy economic times.

13080 Hwy 105 W, Ste. 127, Conroe, TX 77304 - 936-588-5058

To end with some humor, this is a continuation of the things Hurricane Ike taught me:

  • A new method of non-lethal torture- showers without hot water.
  • There are a lot more stars in the sky than most people thought.
  • TV is an addiction and the withdrawal symptoms are painful.
  • A 7lb bag of ice will chill 6-12 oz Budweiser's to a drinkable temperature in 11 minutes, and still keep a 14 lb. turkey frozen for 8 more hours.
  • There are a lot of dang trees around here.

KW Commercial

KW Commercial Logo

On August 26, 2008, Keller Williams unveiled its newest division - KW Commercial! Gary Keller has the incredible vision to always be looking toward the future and making sure that Keller Williams remains on the cutting edge! What makes this even better is the fact that in order for an agent to be involved in the commercial division, very stringent guidelines must be met.

First of all, the agent must be already a broker or in the process of becoming a broker. Subsequently the agent must be in the process of acquiring the much coveted CCIM designation. (Certified Commercial Investment Member) These requirements will already set KW Commercial agents apart from many others. Gary Keller believes in doing things the right way from the start.

I am thrilled to be in the process of the above two disciplines. I attended my first CCIM Intro Course and passed! Very intense and challenging but well worth it. I am learning a lot and look forward to completing my CCIM by the end of 2009.

The Franke Team is participating at the Director level for KW Commercial. We have a team of commercial agents working on many different levels in commercial real estate. From investments, multi-family, land acquisition, leasing, commercial buildings and much more, we can serve all of your real estate needs. We welcome you to visit the KW Commercial site at www.kwcommercial.com

We are excited to be participating in yet another first class program with Keller Williams!
