Friday, where will you be? Join us to help Tom Ernst as he promotes a track race here at the Frisco Superdrome (race details below)! We would like to welcome all of our sponsors, our members and potential members to join us in a VIP room that night. The club will provide a selection of food and drinks while we watch the race. We have invited several City employees and all of the City Council to this event. We have a teammate, Eddie Church and his wife that are driving up from Austin for this! (sorry Eddie, you have to leave your dog at home but my cats would eat a dog that small)
Tom needs our help this Friday! Will you e-mail him today and let him know you will help tom@bikemart.com Buy FCC gear at the Track race this Friday! We will have all the items on location in the VIP room at the track- bring your check book!
Rework of the 2002 Hike and Bicycle Master Plan passes Parks and Recreation Board! It now moves to the Planning and Zoning Commission and then to the Frisco City Council. Please read 2 letters at the bottom of this e-mail that some concerned cyclist have already sent. Stay involved and consider having a conversation with P & Z or a Council member when you can.
Parks and Recreation has a survey you need to fill out. Please remember to add comments about what they could improve to be a cyclist here in Frisco, to be that model City!
FCC Committee: Since we are a club built on all aspects of cycling we need you to help and become involved with sub committees. Contact me to be included on; City Advocacy, Road Racing, Track Racing, Mt. Bike riding and racing, BMX, Triathlon, Commuting, Tours and Cause Rides, Promotions/Events and Youth.
Speaking of the Youth- Cody Holland, Colton Holland and Gunnar Scheck went to Junior Track Nationals in Carson CA. last month. They raced well and had a great time. Colton placed 7th overall and Gunnar placed 9th overall. Colton also raced in Junior Road Nationals. Gunnar is the 2008 Age-based Criterium State Champion 10-12 category. Nathan Cash and Nicholas Cash participated in the Hotter than Hell Race and had a great time. All the members of the youth group are looking forward to Regionals in Houston on Sept 20th and the race at the Superdrome on Sept. 27th.
Thanks for reading and riding in Frisco, see you soon,
Geoffrey Davis

FC Dallas and Lochrann's - recently finalized the extension of our partnership to include away game viewing parties and an in-stadium beer garden. Their goal with the beer garden for this year is to establish a strong foundation to continue to grow the fan experience game by game. The set-up for March 30th will be a scaled down model with the intention of growing the concept to a point where their food is also available from within Lochrann's on the Stage. Having been a part of the conversations with Lochrann's since last January I am very proud of this partnership and know that it will continue to provide exciting experiences for our community of supporters.
Quotes: "We're very happy to announce our partnership with Lochrann's Irish Pub," said Hitchcock. "It's exciting that our fans will have the opportunity to enjoy post-game parties and watch all away games together at Lochrann's, as well as join us at Pizza Hut Park at Lochrann's on the Stage, which promises to be a great beer garden. We couldn't ask for a better pub partner who just happens to be a neighbor." "We're excited to partner with FC Dallas and hopefully this will last many years," said Deina McNabb, co-owner of Lochrann's. "I think every pub would love to be in the backyard of a professional soccer stadium, which is why working with FC Dallas is a dream come-true. We're looking forward to the start of the season when we can start celebrating with the fans, both at Lochrann's and inside Pizza Hut Park." Harber Exclusive Note: In their first month Lochrann's eclipsed all Texas bars and pubs in the sale of our favorite Irish beers. They ranked in the top 25 in the country for this brand!
Dallas ranks as one of the worst Cities in which to ride bikes. The cream of the crop Cities that you can go visit, or live and enjoy your bicycle, from the League of American Bicyclist report. Davis, CA tops the list, then Boulder, CO; Corvallis, OR; Madison, WI; Palo Alto, CA; Portland, OR and San Francisco, CA. Down the list, just a bit was Lawrence, KS! I was so proud to read that and see my old town made the list. I am personally motivated and will, with the help of the Frisco Cycling Club, strive to make broad changes in Frisco, TX...the City I now call home. So we too, in the future, can be called a Safe City to ride a bike!
Over the weekend our cycling club, Frisco Cycling, was very busy. On Saturday, 12 of our 65 members made it to the above photo shoot- more photos of each person on our site. After that, several of us headed over to a Richardson Bike Mart sponsored event, the Frisco Family Fun Ride where we worked a booth. As a club we had "share the road" bumper stickers and balloons with our logo printed up. We rented a helium tank and lined the course with hundreds of balloons- it was a very cool sight!
Then, at the booth- we gave kids more balloons, lots of bicycle safety material, stickers and a Certificate we had made up. The Certificate makes kids promise to wear their helmet and we made them nice enough that parents could even take them home and frame them as we write in the childs name on it- a huge hit! Then Sunday it was off for a maintenance day at the Frisco Velodrome. Our track is famous not just for the steep banks the riders get to pedal around, but also that you are riding on wood panels. Very smooth ride (unless you crash) but wood wears over time so old boards need to be torn out, new boards need to be painted, cut, carried and then screwed onto the tracks metal frame and caulked to keep the smooth ride consistent. Needles to say, I might need to invest in some vitamin I (ibuprofen) today to easy my aces and pains. Hope you can make the next work day, though challenging work, it is truly rewarding.
St. Philip's 3rd Annual Fall Festival
Benefiting St. Philip's Preschool
Saturday, November 1
3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
We are preparing for our 3rd Annual St. Philip's Fall Festival on Saturday, November 1 from 3-6 p.m. on the church campus. This will be a fun-filled, family event featuring bounce houses, train rides, a dunking booth, carnival games, face-painting, balloon animals, hot dogs, Philapalooza and more!
Tickets for the Fall Festival will be pre-sold during the month of October or available on the day of the event. The cost is $5 per person, not to exceed $20 per family. Ticket forms are available at St. Philip's or email jenatwood@sbcglobal.net. Your ticket price includes hot dog, popcorn, cotton candy and access to fun games and activities. Bring your dollars to dunk your favorite St. Philip's celebrity! Also come ready to participate in the silent and live auctions with all proceeds benefiting St. Philip's Episcopal Preschool. In the past, the auction has provided for a cover for the playground, a laminating machine, risers for school/church events and much more. This year we hope to continue to support the needs of the school and to start a scholarship fund.
You can help make the festival this year a huge success. Following are some opportunities:
Volunteer - We need volunteers for the day of the event and also for planning. Sign up sheets are in the Education Building.
Donate - The silent and live auctions raise funds for the school and children's ministries. We are looking for donated gift certificates, sporting event tickets, use of a vacation home, gift items and donated services (i.e. spa services, tutoring, decorating, etc.)
Sponsorship - Families and businesses can sponsor a portion of the event. Sponsorship opportunities start at $100 for an event. Donors will be recognized at the festival, unless you wish to remain anonymous.
Invite a Friend - We want to involve the entire community. So bring your family and invite a friend! We want to share our wonderful event and church with everyone!
Please contact Jennifer Atwood for more information: jenatwood@sbcglobal.net or 972-335-8227.
