This is a Medicare Presentation to discuss the changes to Medicare and the new Medigap, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Drug plans available for 2010 as well as the programs to help people save money on their Medicare costs.

Ash Creek Fall Event

Did you receive an invite to our Fall Event? If not, sign up at www.blackrockonline.org for your e-mail update. We will be showing the Nature video "Crash: A Tale of Two Species" which shows the delicate ecological balance between migrating shorebirds and horseshoe crabs. This one hour video will be followed by a Q & A with a renowned expert on horseshoe crabs, Professsor Mark Beekley of Sacred Heart University who runs Project Limulus. The event will be held at the Fayerweather Yacht Club.

Space is limited to 40 attendees.

Event is free for members. Non-members can attend and join on-site for $5 senior, $10 individual, or $20 household. Membership forms will be available.

Black Rock Homeowners Meeting on November 4

The Black Rock Homeowners Association will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 4 at 7 PM at the Black Rock Library at 2705 Fairfield Avenue.

Guest speakers will be Pat Fardy, Chairperson for the Master Plan Steering Committee and Peter Hance, Director of Development, Bridgeport Housing Authority

Topics on the agenda:

  • Overview of the updated Bridgeport "Master Plan", the central planning document for development in Bridgeport.
  • Presentation on the new $26 Million development proposal on Albion St. (Across from the Stop & Shop in Black Rock)
  • Update on the Ellsworth Park proposal and information on next community meeting.
  • Plus . . . a brief update on the Metro Center/Fairfield Train Station and the St. Mark's property on Brewster Street.

Hazardous Household Waste Day in Bridgeport

You are invited to participate in Bridgeport's Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, October 24 from 9 AM to 11 AM at Blackham School (corner of Thorme Street and Amsterdam Avenue - see map). This annual event is a n opportunity to safely get rid of your household hazardous wastes. Common household hazardous wastes include:

Adhesives, Aerosols, Ammonia, Antifreeze, Artist's Paints, Batteries (household), Brake Fluid, Charcoal Lighter Fluid, Cleaning Solvents, Compuers, Computer Monitors, Disinfectants, Drain Cleaners, Epoxy Products, Floor Care Products, Fungicides, Gasoline, Glues, Herbicides, Insecticides, Kerosene, Moth Balls, Oven Cleaners, Paint Stripper/Thinners, Polishes, Pool Chemicals, Spot and Stain Removers, Transmission Fluid, Turpentine, Televisions, VCR's, Wood Preservatives

DO NOT BRING:

Tires, Medicines/Drugs, Biological Waste, Needles/Syringes, Ammunition, Fire Extinguishers, Explosives or Flares

Bring your waste products in their original containers when possible, and place them in cardboard boxes in your trunk. Enter the school through the entrance on Amsterdam Avenue and remain inside your vehicle. Please have your Connecticut Driver's License ready and the Hazardous Waste Team will empty your trunk.
