The 25th annual "Taste of Our Town" (TOOT) was held on Saturday, October 10, 2009, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm. This event is a benefit for Carnegie Hall. Residents and visitors from across the region gathered on the historic streets of downtown Lewisburg to sample delicacies from local restaurants, civic clubs and organizations.
The main street in Lewisburg and some side streets were blocked off for this annual event. This year, TOOT tokens had to be purchased, as the vendors did not accept cash in exchange for food. TOOT is fun for the whole family from....live entertainment, clowns, tasting foods, face painting, and so much more.
If you left TOOT hungry....well, all I can say is you missed out on some great foods and oh, so many different desserts. My husband and I have been attending the TOOT event ever since moving to Lewisburg in 2005....it is so much fun.

I found Jessie Pierson, Miss West Virginia USA - 2009, viewing some artist paintings at the Cooper Gallery. Miss Pierson is from Milton, West Virginia.
Hope to see you at next year's TOOT event.

This condo is a rare find for those seeking the benefits of a well established community, amenities offered by many newer condominiums, and features not available at other condominiums, all for a surprisingly affordable price of $270,000.
This one bedroom, one bath condo at the Cardinal House, located on the corner of Lee Highway and Spout Run Parkway in Arlington, Virginia is spacious and sunny. The kitchen has been updated with new appliances in 2004. The bath has been remodeled, hardwood floor in foyer, chair railing in living and dining room. There is generous closet space with a large walk-in closet in foyer, and mirror sliding doors to Large bedroom closet, a linen closet, plus resident storage.
The building is solid construction for quiet and privacy, and ample free parking (each unit has two parking spaces, plus there is plenty of guest parking). Other amenities include a beautiful, well appointed lobby to great visitors; a large party room with a full sized kitchen, TV lounge and billiards area; a fully equipped exercise room, with showers and saunas; an outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by a landscaped lawn, brick patios and a barbecue area.
The Cardinal House Condominium property features manicured lawns, flowering shrubs and mature trees. Cardinal House Condominium is professionally managed, with an on-site building manager and engineer, and has an on-site security during evening, overnight and weekend hours.
Across the street from the Cardinal House is a Giant Food Store, two major drugstores, a bank, shops and restaurants.
Like I said, this condo at the Cardinal House is the best kept secret ... it has it all from clean, secure building, great amenities, near shopping and restaurants, Metro bus stop across the street, and near metro stations (Clarendon, Rosslyn, and Ballston). A great price and a great location.

Were does the time go - Christmas will be here before you know it. And, if you are looking for some luminous holiday ornaments, I know just where to go...... to the Greenbrier's "Christmas Depot Shop" in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
The Christmas shop opened at the Greenbrier in 1996 in a former historic train depot dating to 1931. The best thing about the Christmas Depot Shop besides the Christmas ornaments, collectible Santas, nutcrackers, water globes and holiday decorations, is that it is opened year-round. In each of the six rooms of the shop you will find beautiful decorated Christmas trees.
The shop, located directly across from the entrance of the Greenbrier Resort is recognized by the candy cane-striped posts and red and green Christmas-themed exterior. Not only does the Christmas Depot shine in the night with fairy-tale beauty during the holiday, it shines year round.
It still serves as a depot of sorts as the Amtrak Cardinal train continues to run by the Greenbrier three days a week. The first thing you will see when de-boarding the train is, of course, the Christmas Shop.

Stop by the Christmas Depot Shop and browse you may find some great holiday ornaments. Located at 315 West Main Street. White Sulphur Springs, WV.

Take the train, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery I told my friends. And, that is exactly what they are going to do. My friends in Alexandria, Virginia, are planning to take the train from Union Station in Washington, DC, to White Sulphur Springs this Fall.

The Amtrak’s Cardinal Line originates in New York and goes to Chicago. The train from Union Station to White Sulphur Springs, WV, operates three days a week -- Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday (both east and west bound). Departing Union Station at 11:10 am, and arriving in White Sulphur Springs at 5:00 pm.
The Cardinal offers unforgettable views of the Southeast's stunning natural beauty. You'll see gently rolling horse country, the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, the Shenandoah Valley, and the wild white-water rivers of West Virginia as they can only be seen by train.
Choose a wide, comfortable Reserved Coach seat, or make reservations for Sleeper Service accommodations. Complete meals, sandwiches, snacks and beverages are served in the Dinette.
The train stops at 315 West Main Street, at the Christmas Depot Shop and right across the street from the main entrance of the Greenbrier Hotel. While waiting for the train or just arriving in White Sulphur Springs, be sure to visit the Christmas Shop. And, if you are not staying at the Greenbrier, stop for a meal or do some shopping.
The train fare for one way is $32.00 or $64 for a round trip fare. You can't beat the price. Think about it...it takes four hours to drive to Washington, DC. If you take the train, you can relax, eat, drink and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
