The Greenbrier's Tavern Casino opened today as scheduled by the new owner, Jim Justice. I was invited with the news media today to visit the Tavern Casino and the new restaurant, Prime 44 West Steakhouse. The Tavern Casino will serve as the property’s introductory gaming facility until the highly anticipated new, underground Casino at the Greenbrier officially debuts in April, 2010.
The Tavern Casino consists of 3,700 square feet that includes table games of blackjack, roulette, and three card poker; as well as slot machines.
The Tavern Casino Package is perfect for guests looking to sample the property's newest amenity. This package includes luxurious accommodations, $150 in match play coupons, and breakfast for two. Rates include all applicable taxes, gratuity, and resort fees and start at $419 single occupancy and $449 for double occupancy. The package is available from October 1 through December 22. Blackout dates may apply.
What are Match Play Coupons? They are used for table games and are available in different denominations. Bets are placed along with the match play coupon and when a gamer wins, they are paid for the bet along with a bonus for the values of the coupons. Match Play Coupons can be picked up at the Tavern Casino anytime after check-in process is complete.
The Tavern Casino will be opened to overnight guests, members of The Greenbrier Sporting Club, and The Greenbrier and Tennis Club in addition to registered event/convention attendees staying off-property when more than 400 rooms are sold.

The Greenbrier's premier "Prime 44 West steakhouse, honoring West Virginia's native son and famed NBA player Jerry West opens on schedule today, October 1. I was invited with the news media today to visit the new restaurant and the Tavern Casino. What an experience this was for me -- I met Jerry West and the new owner of the Greenbrier, Jim Justice.
Jim Justice said "the restaurant was completely transformed into an upscale steakhouse. We worked a lot of nights so we could open on schedule. The kitchen is state of the art and is one of only four in the world. The reservations are skyrocketing."

Natural and dark woods combined with bold and traditional fabrics complement the collection of memorabilia, creating a "diners club" experience. The warm, intimate ambiance is enhanced by rich burgundy, royal blue, brown plaid, chocolate brown leathers, suede covered walls, and soft interior lighting.

Jerry West stated that he is excited about the restaurant and it is a great tribute to him. The restaurant is very warm, colorful and comfortable. The restauarant will, of course, have steaks, exceptional cuts of beef from West Virginia and around the globe,
Every aspect of the venue - from the decor (suede-covered walls) to the menu - pays homage to the West Virginia native, Jerry West. The restaurant displays the largest public collection of West memorabilia. Diners will see over 100 pieces, including the gold medal he won at the 1960 Summer Olympics, All-Star jerseys, mementos from his college days and more. West stated "The gold medal is the most special to me". He also added that "West Virginia is a very special place to me, this is where I got my education, I love the people and the state. The people's kindness and loyalty is something that must be earned and means a lot to me."
When asked about the menu Jerry said, "there is a 44 oz porterhouse steak on the menu, it is enough for two or more. There is something for everyone's pallet. The portions are large, and no one will leave here hungry."
Under the direction of Chef de Cuisine Michael Treanor, Prime 44 West will focus on extraordinary ingredients presented in a traditional yet refined manner, including innovative steakhouse favorites. Appetizers will include a “raw bar” with Kumamoto Oysters on the half shell with Fresh Wasabi and Chilled Shellfish Platter with Horseradish Crème Fraiche. Other signature starters like Lobster Bisque garnished with Chestnut and Cardamom and Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake Cigars with a grapefruit and papaya remoulade. Entrées will include steakhouse staples with a local twist, including West Virginia Blue Ribbon Pork Duo, Snake River Farm Wagyu Tenderloin, Elysian Fields Double Cut Rack of Lamb and a “Nothing But Net” 44 oz. Porterhouse Steak. All meats will be of exceptional quality and vary in price, species and origin. A simple, yet creative and sophisticated selection of desserts will finish off the Prime 44 West experience. Southern treats, such as New Wave Key Lime Pie, Carrot Cake with Ginger Ice Cream, and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Warm Caramel Sauce will be on the dessert menu.
The restaurant’s extensive wine list will feature a diverse selection of approximately 150 wines from California, the Pacific Northwest, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia and Argentina. Prime 44 West will offer highly acclaimed wines as well as collections from small artisanal producers from around the world. In addition, a large selection of wines that are sustainable, organic or biodynamically grown will be available. The glassware for Prime 44 West was custom-made for The Greenbrier by Masterpiece Crystal, a West Virginia glass company.
The Prime 44 West Restaurant at the Greenbrier is opened from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm Monday-Saturday. The restaurant will be closed on Sunday. You will not be able to get reservations this weekend as the restaurant is already booked for the weekend.
If you plan to have dinner at the new Prime44 West Restaurant...plan ahead and make your reservations now.
For reservations, call (304) 536-1110.

Just had to throw in a photo of Jerry West and me....
