ITS A BRAND NEW DAY

Waking up to sixteen inches of fresh snow yesterday, and another six inches this morning doesn't make it feel like May. I think you can see the disgusted look on this hummingbirds face.

HUMMINGBIRD IN THE SNOW

You can tell that these little guys aren't excited about the snow either. I had to take the hummingbird feeder in last night because the temperature got down to 18 degrees. That would have resulted in frozen food for the little guys. Since they don't have access to a microwave to thaw out their food they thanked me for bringing it in last night. They were already looking for the feeder at 5:30 AM this morning and boy were they glad it was warm nectar!

ITS A BRAND NEW DAY

Tami Spaulding says "Life is a gift, make sure you open yours today!". You can see in our special part of the world, that we truly do get a gift that opens up brand new every day.

WISH YOU WERE HERE!

We have received our special gift for the day, and we don't mind sharing. Hope your day and the rest of the week are terrific.

I'M GETTING MY CHRISTMAS TREE BACK OUT

Am I confused? Well, Kim Coffee thinks I am. I was thinking about getting my Christmas Tree and my ski's back out. Kim says that she's putting her snow tires back on.

DOWNTOWN ESTES PARK IN FRESH SNOW

We received sixteen inches of new snow, and it is supposed to start snowing again today around 4:00 PM (and it did) for another six inches plus.

What a beautiful snow! It is so quiet and serene with the fresh snow dampening the typical sounds of the day.

HERE KITTY KITTY KITTY

One thing about living in the mountains is that you also get to live with the wildlife. My last post talked about the Coyote that was licking it's chops over the dogs we were watching. It's a little early for the bears as we are still getting snow.

Our area however does have an increasing cat population. There have been no reported incidents however sightings are up significatnly. Even though these big cats don't like to be seen - they are here, and you need to be aware of thier presence.

Mountain Lion checking you out.

Have a great week, and don't forget to look over your shoulder. Oh yes, don't try this at home, and don't get this close.

WATCH YOUR PETS

When you live in the mountains you learn to watch out for critters that might think your cat or dog would just be a snack.

Hungry Coyote looking for a snack.

We saw this Coyote strolling by as we were puppy watching this afternoon. You have to keep an eye on the natural preditiors while loving your pets.

NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED

Estes Park, Colorado is full of institutions. Those glorious places that remind us of a time not so long ago that seems to be so lost. If you need a haircut at Dermody's Barber Shop, you just walk in and sit down. I can remember growing up in a small town in Nebraska with he same policy. If you were in a hurry, and there we a lot of people in the shop, you would just have to come back later or pick another day. Of course there were those people in the shop that didn't much care and would let you take their place if you really were in a hurry.Carroll Dermody's Barber Shop - no lines no waiting

Want to know how long it will be before you get your haircut? You can't just look in the window because some of those occupied seats are just listeners or contributors to the local news. Derm will tell you soon as you peek your head in how many are on the bench or if you are next up.

The haircutting part is such a small part of the old fashioned barber shop. I can remember my Grandpa Cooper who was a Judge in a small town in Kansas. I think a cue ball on a billiard table had more hair than Grandpa Cooper but he got his haircut every Friday. Didn't seem like a really good investment to me at the time (being very young) but later I realize that was where the local news was distributed. If you couldn't wait for the newspaper, you went to the "Barber Shop".

There is plenty of news that goes through Dermod't Barber Shop in Estes Park, Colorado, and you can't get an appointment for a haircut either. It is still done the old fashioned way first come first serve. Oh yes, and if you are really in a hurry someone will probably let you take their place.

Have a great day - Gerald
