Shady display at Tryst Gallery beginning Feb. 2

"Shaded," the artwork of Valley artist John Koleszar, debuts at Tryst Art Gallery @ Inspirador in Downtown Chandler on Feb. 2 and runs through the 28th with an opening reception on Feb. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. during historic downtown Chandler's First Wednesday ArtWalk. The event features deejay Todd Etheridge, live graffiti painters Brez and Closer on the front walk and a wine tasting.

Koleszar's newest work is a series of portraits painted in the artist's trademarked style of layering spray-painted, hand-cut stencils on top of one another until the portrait is achieved. His work has been shown in San Francisco, New York, Melbourne, London, San Diego, Washington D.C. and Phoenix.

A self-taught artist using a self-created technique, Koleszar explains the reason behind his painting: "Six years ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and I feel that being faced with a terminal disease was what really made me think about leaving my mark on the planet. Ever since then I have turned the negative reality of living with cancer into a positive driving force behind my work."

Tryst Gallery is embraced by the Inspirador complex, a contemporary art gallery featuring both established and "undiscovered" local, national and international artists. The gallery offers unique artwork to the novice collector, as well as the discerning decorator. Exhibits rotate monthly. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 480-241-4840 for more info. I'm looking forward to Chandler's Art Walk beginning again. This is a great way to support our local busniesses. Hope to see you there.

Buyers Being Lured to 100% Loan Program

Home buyers are learning about available 100% financing loan programs offered by the United States Department of Agriculture. There are two 100% financing loans available, which are VA loans and the Rural Home Loan program.

The Rural Home Loan program allows no-money-down purchases. A borrower can seek up to 102 percent when a mortgage insurance policy is included.

Eligibility requirements are that buyers' income can't exceed 115 percent of the median county income. The loan program is restricted to low-density areas. which generally include towns of no more than a population of 25,000. The loan program is offered by private lenders, then insured by the government.

While Maricopa County does not qualify for the 100% Rural Home Loan program, Pinal County areas in Queen Creek (Johnson Ranch) and the City of Maricopa qualify for this program.

The good news is that home builders are promoting the use of this program. "It's one of our main tools right now," says John Bargnesi, vice president for sales of Scottsdale, Ariz., home builder Meritage Homes.
