In recognition of Earth Day, residents are encouraged to turn off their lights on Saturday, March 28th from 8:30-9:30pm (local time) for Earth Hour in effort to raise awareness of global warming.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 when local 2.2 million businesses and residents turned off lights for one hour during the night. Last year the movement grew substantially to 50 million businesses and residents. Some nationwide landmarks were the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome's Coliseum, the Sydney Opera House, and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
This year the Earth Hour hopes to reach it's goal of 1 billion participants. Help support this movement; all it takes is a flip of a switch!

Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) will be conducting a controlled burn on the property of a homeowner with property along Branch River Road in the Neersville area of Loudoun County. This burn will benefit the surrounding area by reducing the amount of brush and pine needles, and will promote new vegetation that serves as food for many species of animals. For more information about the precautions in place for the burn, please contact the Neersville Fire-Rescue Station 16 at 540-668-6974 or the Leesburg office of the VDOF at 703-777-0457.
*While the certified burn managers and the landowners are conducting the prescribed burns, the VDOF and local fire and rescue personnel and equipment will be on hand to monitor the fires.
