Save your gas, encourage local agricultural production and shop for fresh, wholesome fruits and vegetables at the Grafton Farmers Market. Held at the Twin City Plaza lot every Thursday from 9am-6pm until October (as weather permits), the Farmers Market in Grafton offers locally grown fruits, vegetables, baked goods, plants and flowers. It's a great way to visit your neighbors and show support for our local farmers while helping reduce the use of fossil fuels by not having to ship produce in from outside sources. You can find corn, onions, peppers, squash, beets and zucchini at the market right now. But, as more crops mature throughout the summer months and into the fall, more produce will be available. For more information, please contact Nancy Hundt at 262-377-1650. Going to market has never been so fun!
The Midwest's annual Ozaukee County Fair is almost here. This year, the fair will be held from Wednesday, July 30th to Sunday, August 3rd in Cedarburg. There will be live music, livestock, rides, beauty pageants and, of course, lots and lots of food! Some of the grandstand events include a truck pull on Wednesday, tractor pull on Thursday and a demolition derby on Friday and Saturday. Also on Thursday and Friday, you can enjoy reduced ride rates from 12pm-5pm. There is a small animal auction happening Sunday at 11am. Some of the daily events include chain saw carving (four shows daily), Comedy Safari Show (three shows daily) and women wood carvers, a new event added to this year's festivities. There will also be live music performed at Center Stage daily. For teenagers looking to promote their band and possibly win some cash, the 5th Annual Teen Battle of the Bands will hold two competitions at the Main Gate stage on Sunday, August 3rd. The two categories competing will be ages 14 and younger and ages 15-19. First prize is $220. And, no fair would be complete without the "Fairest of the Fair" competition, which will be held on Wednesday. Fair hours are: noon to midnight on Wednesday (opening day), 8am-midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 8am-8pm on Sunday (closing day). For more information about the live entertainment, 4H schedule, Fairest of the Fair and Teen Battle of the Bands, please visit the Ozaukee County Fair website.

All residents and visitors to the Grafton area are invited to shoot photographs they feel represent the look and feel of our great community during the week of August 1-7. Participants can choose to take photographs on just one day out of the week or a compilation of photographs taken on different days throughout the week. These photographs will be put together in an exhibit during Auckland Heritage Week at the Parnell Community Centre (September 15-30). After Heritage Week, these photos will be included in a permanent exhibit at the Auckland War Museum. The goal of "Shoot History Week" is to capture a unique individual perspective of the Grafton area. To download an entry form, please visit the Grafton Residents Association website.
