is usually a symptom of a problem water leak, causing wet wood. Therefore, it is important to determine the reason the ants are nesting in the structure rather than to kill them. Look for a pest control company that locates the nest and links the symptom to the cause.
Prevention of a carpenter ant infestation requires:
1. Maintenance of the structure to deny suitable habitat
2. Maintenance of the structure to deny access by periodically inspecting the structure.
Take special care to carefully inspect areas where water and other pipes go through walls, base of toilets, around bath tubs and the base of shower stalls. Regularly caulk, weather strip openings to the out-of-doors such as around window panes, door jambs, where pipes go through walls to the outside.
FYI: Your home is much more at risk from water damage, which attracts carpenter ants, than the ants themselves.
Great care should be taken when using poisons in the home. Read and follow instructions on the pesticide label.
With the morning light came a scurry of snowflakes falling with intensity down in to the county of Butte. The photos I provide to you are of the upper ridge in Magalia above Paradise Lake. Beautiful as they maybe cause concern for drivers as the roads are slick and icy.

The snowfall is wet, which means for residents that the roads are dangerous. If you don't need to drive on days like this stay home and give the police, VIPS and other officials in the town of Paradise and Magalia a break. Listen to the Butte county public scanner at www.thenet411.net to get up to date weather forecasts. You can even listen live or sign up to receive email updates like me. It's no wonder Magalia is gorgeous it gets enough snowfall and or rain to keep those ponderrosa pines going strong. Enjoy the snow day!

According to the highway patrol this morning January 21, 2008 at around 7:40 this morning in Paradise Ca Drivers of two wheel vehicles are having a hard time navigating because of the icy conditions and a spin out has occurred at the Magalia dam with as many as 25 cars. Slow down.....Speed is not your friend in these conditions. Snow levels are expected to drop to 1000 foot elevations. Chain requirements are posted on the skyway above clark road. Althought the snow is beautiful it is also very dangerous for those opting to drive on our slick Paradise Ca roadways. Be Careful out there!
Now that 2008 has arrived, so are the recycling programs. Your trash hauler which is servicing the communities of Magalia/Paradise Pines, Kelly Ridge, Thermalito, South Oroville or Durham is now required to offer curbside pickup of common recyclable items like newspaper, magazines, cardboard, junk mail, glass and plastic jars and bottles as well as aluminum and tin cans.
Call your trash service provider for more information regarding recycling.
